What film did you watch last night?

The Darkest Hour 4/10

Watchable, but honestly, the trailer promised stuff that the entire film wasn't able to deliver. The entire film is basically a setup for a sequal

I didn't get the bit where they (and who were they?) took a particular person away. I can guess why but not good enough

Ye i didnt really get who they were either, my best guess was they were foreign but were saving her because she was a child.

Jack & Jill - very rarely I turn a film off but I lasted about 20 minutes.

I haven't seen this - So couldn't possibly comment :p But after seeing it win so many Razzie Awards (Including Worst Male AND Female), I can't help but wonder what is going on with Adam Sandler's career  I'd be firing my agent pretty soon if I was him :p

On The Divide plot:

Ye i didnt really get who they were either, my best guess was they were foreign but were saving her because she was a child.

They weren't foreign. They were a secret amalgamation of American officials, citizens, scientists and soldiers who decided to 'remake' the country - and presumably the world - through nuclear destruction.

When the guy goes to the laboratory, you can see a close-up of the I.D. badge which shows the name of the project, but I forgot what it is. Also, every soldier has his eyebrows/beard/hair shaved, and so do the abducted young children whom have been placed in radiation quarantine/treatment. When the two eventually crazy guys in the bunker start shaving their hair, saying "It's in the hair, it's in the hair", that's because they've realised radiation is in the hair strands.

For example, if anyone in the modern world is treated for radiation poisoning, they shave off all your hair so the body can shed the radiation faster (dead skin cells). It takes time for the hair to fall out, but the radiation is still in the dead hair.

The premise of the nuclear attack/cleansing was simply a device to allow the main story to he told -- a look at humanity and society. I don't know why they made the side-plot so obscure, but if it clicks when you're watching it, I think it's more interesting than just a nuclear attack.

The Innkeepers - 6.5/10

Slow thriller/horror, quite eerie in places but it's all a bit confusing and I found myself heading to the IMDB site to find out who, what, why and where.
Sadly I never got the answers as everyone else was in the same boat and had their own idea of what it was about.

What makes me laugh, is when people mention the alien parts, as being stupid and far fetched. And what happened to the Nazi's in Raiders of the Lost Ark, wasn't? Lol.

It's all nonsense. Enjoyable nonsense though, I might add. :)

That's just down to established myths. The ark of the covenant is a known quantity, insofar as its power and significance is documented in the bible, and whatever your thoughts on the veracity of Judaism and Christianity, that gives it some credibility. Aliens are a much less accepted concept, and are much more into weirdo conspiracy nut territory, so people don't take them nearly so seriously when they turn up in a film like Indiana Jones.

zombieland (again) 9/10

not really much reason for the 9 out of ten other than i think its just an awesome film, really enjoyed it.

I watched that again earlier, great film and I just love Emma Stone. Just...wow.

"Any regrets?"
"...Garfield, maybe."
:D

Just finished watching Drive Angry. Load of garbage, and some of the worst CGI and green screening I've seen in any recent movie.

I've just watched Jeff Nichol's fantastic 'Take Shelter'. I hadn't heard of the film until last night, when I went on a bit of a dig for 'post-apocalyptic' films. The Roger Ebert review checked out (4/4*) so I gave it a watch.

I can usually tell from the first few seconds if I am 'feeling' the film, and I certainly had a good feeling about this from the start. They drip-feed you the really juicy stuff throughout the film, but you never feel like they are avoiding or trying to fill the plot with fluff. I got a really good Jacob's Ladder vibe from Take Shelter, trying to work out what is real and imagination is something I find fascinating in films.

This is independent film of a very high quality, i'm kinda disappointed it didn't make bigger tracks in theatres. Still, I wouldn't be suprised if this became a indie classic.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

I found it to be a superb film, moving in many places yet at each point brings a smile at the same time. Thomas Horn who plays Oskar is not a kid I recognised from any movie before and after checking out IMDB I found out he's not really been in any movie before - An absolutely brilliant performance from him and I'll be looking forward to seeing movies he's casting in the future too.

I really liked how it all came together with his mum (Sandra Bullock) in the end but it also left a burning question too! One of the most memorable films of 2012 for me.

The musical score and camera work came together beautifully as well. Coupled with the cast, it completely exceeded what I was expecting having only seen the trailer.

Thats the bit that I just don't get. There is nothing at all, ever in the history of mankind to even hint at there being an ark of the covenant that has mystical powers. The fact that it is mentioned in a religious text that has no proof of pretty much anything it claims lends zero credibility to the story.

There is way way way more likelihood of aliens existing than a 10th of the bible being related to reality. There are billions of planets with similar properties to our own that could sustain life and yet people claim that aliens in an Indiana Jones film is more far fetched than a box that contains face melting spirits that can only get you if you have your eyes open.

The aliens are in no way related to any of the other films so I'm not sure why someone suggested that it ruins the other films a bit.

I quite enjoyed the crystal skull. It might not be the best one of the franchise but it was still better than 90% of similar films.

On another note, City of God is about the only film that I would say everyone should watch once. Absolutely brilliant. Must have watched it 4-5 times now and it never gets old or boring.
