I am trying to manually update the Firmware on my Freeview HD box, the instructions state the usb must be smaller than 4Gb and Fat32 - the dongle I have is 8Gb.

I tried formatting it as Fat32 regardless, but the update wont work which I thought it wouldn't.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this without getting another USB dongle?

Maybe I could partition/split it into two 4Gb sections somehow?

Thanks in advanced :)

tried your phone? depends how big your memory card is,put the firmware on your fone, connect to usb and set to disk mode?

worth a try,i dont think you can partition usb sticks? never tried

lol ohh god,i dont know how youd do it other than buy a cheap 4gb stick, could just be incompatible though? cantsee how having 8gb would affect it imo,but could be wrong

I dont know, the dongle is formatted as Fat32 so should work really.

Will probably just get a lend of one or buy a cheap one.

You sure it cant be done via a bootable iso on cd?

The Freeview box has a USB slot, not a DVD drive :D

Try using RMPrepUSB.

  1. Enter 4096 in the partition size box.
  2. Select FAT32 for the format.
  3. Click Prepare Drive button.
  4. Copy the firmware onto your USB flash drive.

Resize dongle partition didn't work, even though I got the size of the dongle down to 4gb and Fat32 it failed with the firmware update so I assumed the dongle is not compatible or too old or something.

Instead I bought another dongle and that worked right out the box :)
