**NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 680 4GB ARRIVING NEXT WEEK - PRE-ORDER NOW!!**

yes, but dont forget that quite a few of us are on 1080p only

I don't really think this card is for majority of gamers. Only those that have multi monitor setups or who play games that have huge vram requirements.

@ kiwi1, can you try to get the VRAM usage below 1.5GB and then see if the eye candy takes a visible hit?

Nobodys saying 1.5gb+ will neve be used, just that it won't necessarily be needed.

he just said he hasnt hit 2gb so he is already below the 2gb

The only way to get the vram below 1500 is to switch off MSAA which results in less IQ. As soon as I can afford it I'll be getting another 680.

Don't forget to add VAT (20%), all items entering the UK are subject to duty/VAT, there should be zero duty, but you will have to pay VAT.

At which point your back at the UK price of £440, so no cheaper.

If you order online from US, then you don't pay US taxes, you just pay UK taxes plus shipping on top.

Ah yes, but for instance I'm traveling to the US this summer anyway, so while I'm at it I can just buy some parts that will fit into my check-in case and bring them over myself. So long as I declare them, no extra VAT.

no, charter a 40ft yacht and sail over instead :D you then wont have to pay VAT, IMPORT DUTY nothing.... you just moor up your yacht when you return and row ashore, as if you've just been to France, nobody will ever know or care where you've been.

then row back to your yacht at night with a friend and unload it all, booze, fags, graphics cards, the lot

depends what you're playing and what settings. I'd be inclined to say yes, but it's very difficult to get data for such a rare resolution

Battlefield 3, Skyrim, The Witcher 2, Project CARS and X-Plane 10 are the main games that I'll be playing along with some upcoming titles.

Yeah I thought as much but someone in this particular thread might know much more than I do.

I know i's crude and probably inaccurate, but work with me;

the GTX 680 has 38 FPS in BF3 ultra at 1600p.

38/3=~12FPS

((80/100)x12)x2=FPS of 680 SLI
=>~20 FPS from 680 SLI taking into account 80% scaling in SLI

20FPS is unplayable, so i'd say that you need at the very least tri sli 680 4GB

Feel free to point out any mistakes in my above logic^^^

Seems about right, some guy had Crysis 2 on 3 of those screens and 580 quad SLI was barely enough to run it, also for that sort of GPU power you'd need at LEAST a 3930K @ >5Ghz IMO.

Yeah I'd be getting a 3930K but I guess I'll not bother with the 3 monitor set up for gaming. Does anyone know what resolution 3x 2560x1440 is ? can't find the exact figures through my google searches unfortunately.

Would trifire with the 7970's be a better option then than these? Come to around the same price anyway.

Well VRAM is hugely important with high res so three of these would be better.

The res would be 3(2560)x1440 :)

Yeah stupid question now that I look at it :o

7680x1440

guess I'll look at others who've taken the plunge already and see what numbers they're getting before biting the bullet myself. I could just play through one monitor until GPU's catch up as well... to ease the pain on my pocket.

What makes you think that if you declare them you won't have to pay VAT?

If you don't declare them, they'll see the parts in the X-ray and will open everything up. If that happens, you're not likely to see any of the parts left, if you're even lucky enough they don't "lose" your case.

Trust me, I've moved back and forth between Scotland and the U.S.A. quite a few times and had to deal with a lot of this kind of stuff a few times.

And no, you won't pay VAT on it. I bought the laptop I'm working on now in the U.S.A., brought it back in my carry-on. The thousands of dollars my family's spent on importing tens of thousands of dollars worth of electronics back and forth between here and there are more than enough grounds for my point. :p

I think it equates to 14mp or something ridiculous like that! There's no need for 3 of them for gaming! One of them gives 50% more viewing area than 1080p which is already an advantage!

For 3 screens you're better off going 3 X 1080p in either landscape or portrait depending on the bezels of the monitors you're going for! Good luck in whatever you decide!

Either you're bringing in goods below the allowance, not telling them the full story when you declare them or you're dealing with some very ill informed customs officers.

Duty and tax free allowances - arrivals from non EU countries

If you're buying goods from the USA (not bringing them into the UK yourself) then VAT is payable if the value of the goods exceed £15:

Tax on goods bought from a non-EU country
