Flying the white flag and taking my wheels into Evans on Monday to get the tyres fitted properly. Might see if they can give it a service at the same time (can't see the CW branch being too busy on Easter Monday, assuming it's open). Be good to get riding again after a few months off.

Here's a random question. I'm being sent to Switzerland for 3 months for work and having a silly idea about getting my bike flown over as well. Anyone any experience getting bikes transported and decent but cheap boxes to carry them?

were in Falkirk are you Dreager?

me and Gary Hand are Polmont, do you go out with the Falkirk or Pedal Power bunch at all?

Hi,

Small world!!. I'm in Bonnybridge m8. Got a Pinarello FP1 but haven't managed to get out on it much this year or last really, since our son was born in March 2011 apart from riding back and forth to work in Alloa on the rare occasion I haven't had to take the car and drop him of at my folks for babysitting duties. I know a few guys from the Stirling bike club but to be honest I've never been one for clubs and group runs etc.

Can anyone stop Boonen?

Went out for a ride today with my dad, he's never ridden a road bike before a few months ago, but he got challenged by a friend to cycle he Isle of Wight, so did 40miles today and he's still got a month to go. I'm sure he'll make it, but at what pace I'm not too sure :p

Was hoping to get out a few times this week, but looking at the weather, not looking good!

Am still hoping for my first club chain gang in Richmond Park on Wed morning but I don't fancy 30mph on carbon rims in the pishing rain.

How about we have a swap then? Your carbon rims for my Fulcrum 7's :p

Normally I'd swap them for my Fulcrum 1s but those are going on eBay tonight, that's what is scuppering me.

Do you not have any other wheels?

It pretty flat, so weight doesnt matter much and you're in a group, so there isnt much aero advantage to be had. It would be worth getting some cheap training wheels and keep the nice carbon ones for racing etc.
Also gives a nice boost when you break out the fancy wheels when you want to go fast :D

Current wheel sets are:

Reynolds Assault (44mm full carbon rims)
Fulcrum Racing 1 2-way-fit (using Hutcinson tubeless tyres)
Hope Pro3 RS-Monos

The Hopes are on the Ti commuter and the Fulcrums are on the Carbon weekender. This week I'm selling the Fulcrums and next weekend my Cervelo S1 frame will be going on eBay as well.

The funds from both are going towards a pair of hand made Stan ZTR Alpha 340s on Chris King hubs with 28 / 32 Sapin CXRay spokes. There are going to be my training / hilly ride wheels for the carbon.

1450g, bullet-proof and tubeless on some of the smoothest hubs ever made, what's not to like?

Well, that's the plan but I've been offered a great deal on a Bob Jackson frame in measurements that could have been custom built for me. I don't need it, but it's a Bob Jackson and I've always wanted one.........

I've just set up my Motorola Defy+ JCB android phone with loads of GPS/tracking apps to play around with and now I'm looking for a quality mount for the bike. The phone is IP67 water resistant so I'd prefer one without a rainproof cover. I need one that will doesn't bat an eyelid when going over bumps in the road. Can anyone suggest something based on reputation or their own experience?

I'm always a bit nervous with mounts now, my was going down a big hill (so pretty fast) the other day and hit only a small bump, sent my garmin flying off to what i thought was a nasty death. Luckily i got it home took it apart and it had only knocked a connection out of place.

Although the plastic is a bit battered now!

So good luck finding one!

Gah, looks like I need to take my bike back to the workshop. They sold and fitted me a pair of Fulcrum Racing 7s on my commuting racer, but I noticed there's damage on the front wheel rim, and the wheel isn't true.

Another problem is that the brake pads when applied will be right on the edge of the rim, with a small bit of the pad going under the rim. This will obviously result in the brake pad wearing away the wheel itself. I've looked at adjusting them, but the pads are as far down/up (depending on front or back) the brake calliper arm as possible. Are the callipers poorly designer and need replacing, or can I fix this somehow? Picture of the front caliper:

FYI this is a Trek 1.2.

The gouge on the braking surface is a wear indicator.
When the braking surface has worn away to the extent that you cant feel the gouge anymore, it's time to get a new rim.

It's definitely not the rim indicator, and I'm sure it is damage to the rim. Gouge probably wasn't the best suited word. I'll have the wheel replaced by the bike shop anyway, as it is clearly damaged.

The picture is showing the brake pads issue, not the damage to the wheel that I have :)
