If you found a phone...

Do you even have to ask the question "would you return it?"

It doesn't even need to be contemplated - of course I would. Why wouldn't you? Unless you're a thief and low end scum of the world.

Check the pictures for any hot naked girls then return, finiding and keeping isn't very different to taking imo, especially when it's something as easy to return as a phone.

Would you give it back?

I found a Samsung Galaxy S the other day and called the owner straight away and returned it to him. I will admit I was tempted to keep it!

The thing is, not one of my friends said that they would have returned it, all of them tried to convince me to keep it.

In all honesty, would you have returned the phone if you knew that you could have kept it and had it for yourself?

Have found a phone before, in a shoe with a £20 note, returned the lot in honesty. Am hoping one day the same luck will favour my way.

I'd at least try and return it, maybe by calling recent numbers.
A quick phonecall and the phone is bricked in this country anyway.

I'd be pretty peeved if I lost my phone like, even if it just just a lowly standard Desire.

If the phone is locked and proves problematic to actually get any info out of then I'd probably give up or try and F-Reset the phone and see if any numbers are retrieveable from the sim.

Failing that in a drawer for a bit and see if it's still of any use.

Why not just take it to your local police station. Maybe they could trace the owner by the IMEI Number (it's possible that they reported it for an insurance claim, so would have told them their IMEI)

Log the serial/IMEI on immoblize.com and if it goes missing that will log as lost property on Police systems so we can easily track it.

This scenario always makes me wonder whether it's worth putting the screen lock on. If it's locked, they can't get your number. Hrm, methinks I am going to edit my lockscreen background image to include my home phone number.

I would return it and I have done in the past. I know I would be gutted if I lost my phone so I would not want someone else feeling like that.

If it's a wallet then that would get handed to the police, without any money being taken. When I was about 11 I found a purse with a few hundred pound in it but I can remember thinking this could be some old womans money for the month. I took it home and my dad took me to the police station to hand it in. A few days later a little old woman came to my door and gave me £10 for finding her purse. I was more than chuffed.

I'd return a lost phone.

I've even returned a wallet with a fair amount of cash in a few months ago. As a thank you the chap bought me a bottle of wine.

If you do good things, good things will happen to you.

if I found a wallet with money, I would just take all the money and return the wallet. Your fault for losing out. Call me a chav or w/e but I don't care. If my wallet was missing, it wouldn't be returned, probs just binned. Be happy you don't need to go and make a new ID card, driver's license etc.

Well aren't you a shining example of a ****.

That is absolutely terrible :( What a world we live in...

As much as everyone on here has said they'd return the phone, unfortunately not everyone in society will follow that belief. Would be interesting to see if 150 of you that have posted lost your phones and how many would be returned.

Besides with smartphones I'm pretty certain you can bypass the phone locks/barring with jailbreaking/rooting the phone.

Yep, would always return it, although I have actually found and kept two phones over the past year despite my best efforts.

The first I found on a club floor in Ibiza. It was some **** godknowswhat brand of European phone that was ridiculous to navigate around. Eventually we found texts to text the last person he did but we didn't get a reply by the morning. We then found how to change the language from Spanish to English so we could actually work out what we were doing and that forced a restart. On restart it asked for a PIN and that was the end of that - couldn't get back in to send or receive anything. I even took the MicroSD card out to see if I could find any mobile numbers from apps (like Whatsapp etc) but nothing.

The second I found at a train station and it had no credit so I couldn't call or text out. After some digging around I worked out that it was a company phone and I actually emailed the company saying I'd found it and who I thought it belonged to. Never received a reply to the email but did get a call from the owner a couple of days later who was an absolute douche. Didn't thank me or anything and asked if I could take it to his house in Southampton (I live in Bristol). I said he could collect it and I gave him my own mobile number and never heard anything again.

Both utter dire phones that went straight in the bin unfortunately, but just pointing out that sometimes best intentions aren't always enough.

On that point, how many of you require a PIN to unlock your screen? If you do then there's zero chance of someone being able to make contact first. Alternatives are to stick an "If lost" sticker on the battery or under some kind of cover (loliPhone) or use an ICE app and stick that on a custom lock screen (loliPhone).

I've found at least 2 phones at festivals, I waited until someone rang them, then met them at the side of the stage. I was rewarded with a pint and a hug, can't complain.

I've also chased after a woman when something dropped out of her pocket which was only a fiver but after her gratitude I felt brilliant for the rest of the day - a feeling that £5 could have never have bought me.

Found one before at a park near me i had a quick look through the phone list but didnt know to ring on it and whilst was doing that it rang and it was the guy who had lost it lol.

Exactly what I'm thinking, if its locked how can they return it. Wait for it to ring possibly, I don't think you have to unlock it then...?

A wallet can be different as normally there is some form of ID. Found a wallet at college last year in the canteen on a table. Took it, there was ID so I handed it into reception... There was over £100, but I didn't take it because I'm not a thief :D

I've returned a phone a wallet and a purse but, honestly, if I found a large wad of cash in a box I would struggle to do the right thing.
