If you found a phone...

I've found and returned two phones. I've had friends lose and get their phones back.
It's just not cool to keep it
....

Obviously check phone for home movies ofc :-p

Can't believe how many people are saying they'd hand it back just because it can be black listed so easy these days. How about hand it back because it's the correct honest thing to do??

So the consensus in this thread is that everyone here is holier than thou and would return the phone otherwise its theft.

On this basis if you all saw a £20 note blowing down the street you would all hand it into the nearest police station. Right?

Intrinsic value...

I found an iPhone 4 once. Returned it, never once thought about keeping it even though it would have been a hell of an upgrade from my crappy Android powered Dell Streak.

I lost a phone while on a bus a few years back. It took me almost a day before I noticed. In that time whoever found it ran up a £700 bill in calls to Pakistan. About a month later my mate and I found several thousand pounds in mixed currency under our table at lunch. We handed it in and it was tuition fees belonging to a foreign student.

I can't believe that people would keep a phone if they found one but on the flip side I can't believe that anyone would let the finder go unrewarded when they return it.

I don't think that's their ONLY reason, I think they're saying that the act would be pointless because of it which, along with being the right thing to do, is why they'd give it back. Either way, they'd be giving it back anyway so it hardly matters why they gave it back :p.

Not sure what i will do. I'll probably return the phone, as it can be easily blocked and traced tbh. I WON'T hand it over to the police. They will just steal it themselves.

I do have a story of found stuff though. Once my sister found a pencil box ojust outside of school and it had no name on it. Fair enough. She got it home and there was a pen drive. She gave me the pen drive as I needed it. I looked through the documents and found a name. She had an odd surname, so I searched her up on facebook, uploaded the documents to a filesharing website, and I sent them to her via FB message. The **** reported me to the police for theft. I didn't even 'take' the pen drive myself. The police station rang me up and told me to return it to a police station, which was ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY, like 1 hour drive. If it does happen again, I will look through the drive, and format it. Little **** reporting me for theft. How the **** can I be a thief if I am trying to return it?

Once, when me and my friends went swimming, some one stole out bags. obviously, they took everything with them, including mobile, wallet with money, pencil case with calculator (I had a few lessons before I went to swim). Lazy police did nothing to track the phones.

My dad found a camera at the airport once. it was left outside the airport and must have fallen for someone. he got it home. I looked through it, and saw pictures of 16/17 year old boys (and a few girls) who were just posing  From the language, I figured out they were German, from the language. The camera uses a special battery though, so once the battery died, we had no charger. Still haven't gotten round to buying one

if I found a wallet with money, I would just take all the money and return the wallet. Your fault for losing out. Call me a chav or w/e but I don't care. If my wallet was missing, it wouldn't be returned, probs just binned. Be happy you don't need to go and make a new ID card, driver's license etc.

You're not a chav, you're a scummy little ****.

Brother in law is a taxi man, he was given a phone by a young guy looking to get home only as a keep safe as the guy had no money and promised to pay when he was left home, over 30 mile away. The guy was dropped off and he ran away lol, so the brother in law used the phone, phoned the number saved as home and the guys dad answered, the father was completely embarrassed at what happened and came to pay. Gave the phone back and told him to teach his son some common sense lol.

I did that when I was 13. My mother found out and then proceeded to kick my ass.

Never again, I swear!

I found a iPhone 4 in the back of the cab when I was in Los Angeles and returned it to the Apple store but was told they couldn't access the data to find out who the owner was due to data laws? Couldn't call anyone as the phone was locked with a pass code and there wasn't much battery. I left it with the store and they said they would hand it to the police.

Also found a BlackBerry on the floor in a pub and managed to contact a friend via BB messenger who was out with the person who had dropped it. Arranged to meet them and the girl who's phone it was didn't even come to get it off me and neither her or her friend who did take it from me before passing it to the owed even said thanks.....

If someone found my phone and returned it I would be very appreciative and even offer to buy them a drink. Then again these girls were your usual mini skirt wearing, fake tan sporting little trollops so I shouldn't have expected any form of manners.

I have the 'Prey project' software installed on my mobile along with a couple of other toys. I would try hard to recover my device so I'd expect someone to have the courtesy to return it, I would, I'm too kind sometimes though.
