If you found a phone...

Being a bus driver I find stuff all the time, we have to hand it in to the lost property department and we get a receipt for it then they do all the rest. If its not claimed within 2 months we (the driver) get the items back. So far in my 6years in the Bath depot I've had 4ipods all gen4 and higher 10-15 phones most of them iPhones and only a couple of them were bared! Numerous memory sticks and cameras/sd cards. There have also been ipads and many many laptops handed in that have never been claimed!!

If it was me and I had been on the bus the station would be the first place I would look!

Personally not lost anything or found anything in this matter. Must admit the question posed by the OP is what you call a flamer. If you respond what is socially acceptable then you are praised. If not you are flamed. Although sometimes rightly so..

With reagrds Phones and wallets I guess I would do what I can, failing that hand in to a police station and let them sort it out.

Well I just left my wallet in a cab a few hours ago so lets see if anyone is decent enough to return it. I gave the driver a tip so I hope he would return it if he found it but chances are, the next person who gets in will be the finder. Not holding out much hope to be honest.

What kind of low life would you have to be to at least not attempt to return it before handing it in to the police?

People are very good at justifying their actions so as not to feel like a complete ****. I have heard plenty of excuses like "If I lost my phone they wouldn't return it" or "It's their own fault" etc.

I've also chased after a woman when something dropped out of her pocket which was only a fiver but after her gratitude I felt brilliant for the rest of the day - a feeling that £5 could have never have bought me.

I was once behind a guy and his whole wallet just fell out his pocket unnoticed. I picked it up and sped up to give it back to him. He looked at me with such a face of utter confusion, as to how I came to have something deeply personal of his, in my possession. Was my good deed for the day.

If i came across a bundle of cash with no indication of ownership, I would probably keep it rather than giving it to the police. If the same bundle was clearly identifiable, i would endeavour to trace the owner.

A phone is not a hard item to return. Anybody who wants to keep it, is a ****. Simple as that.

ive lost a phone 3 times and had it given back 3 times , ive also had my house keys and wallet given back

id always try and return a phone. what would be the point keeping a soon to be blocked phone anyway ?

Out of interest what do the drivers do when the phones are given back to them, I mean can you legally sell them on?

Check phone.

Find work/mum/dad number.

Phone said number and inform of the lost phone.

Arrange how best to return the phone to the owner (at their expense).

Return phone.

Keeping or selling it on is just lowdown and *****.

A phone vastly exceeds it's material value to the owner, they're priceless to just about all of us - the only honourable thing is to do everything you can to return it to the owner.

.

If its not collected after 60days ad the company notify the owner (if at all possible) then its fair game!

Ok firstly , defo return it , its the right thing to do

Wallet , defo return again right thing to do .... story

Was going into local Spar to get some supplies about 1 week before christmas
looks down at edge of doorway and sees a fat wallet stuffed with money etc

I pick it up (and notice out the corner of my eye an old geezer) and walk
into store and try to find the manager or staff member to hand it in.

Find a staff member and explain where I found it and hand her my card .....
then old geezer comes up and shakes my hand and goes "cheers lad for finding my wallet"

Then the woman goes what is your name then ? She opens the wallet and
checks the owner name on a cards and the old geezer answers with wrong one .....
not sure if old geezer was trying it on , he was like 70+

Owner phoned me a few days later and thanked me for returning his wallet.

Most companies hold a 30 day and some even less policy a for lost property, 60 days is ample time for things to be collected!

How is it theft if the owner has been notified that the item is in the station's lost property but have chosen not to come get it?

Think about it if they held stuff forever the building would be full of lost ****!

Probably.

As other said, when they lost stuff, it never came back. Maybe I should even keep the wallet then? The person should just be grateful they got their stuff back. Its enough of as hassle going to do all the documents and stuff. Heck, people steal ID cards and use them as their own  and you think I still have faith in humanity that if my stuff will be returned? No thanks.

I know what theft by finding id tyvm. My sister didn't know the person, because the school has over 5000 students. Although, I was young. A more mature version of me would have just formatted the drive and kept it. **** being reported to the police because I tried to return the important part of the found items. Looking back, I wish I had put a virus in that thing. **** deserved it.

My cousin's husband lost his work laptop in a supermarket. He later received the Hard Disk with the data. Instead of trying to trace down the person who found it, he thanked his lucky stars, as somebody else wouldn't have even returned that.

Call me scummy whatever. You are trying to make people believe you would return something if you found it. Even if you find money you should return it to the police, but I doubt how many people would do that.

Clearly too ***** to understand laws of common decency.
Stop trying to defend your thieving little scummy ways.

Urgh, people like that should be banned from this forum.
