Hey all,

I'm curious what other drummers use to practice...

Do you have an electric kit? Or do you have a special practice space you rent and play in? Or do you actually have a sound-proof room in your house where you can play your kit?

I currently have an electric kit, but I feel there is only so far you can go with an electric set... I've been thinking about maybe sound proofing a room in the house, but I was curious at what other drummers do to practice?

I was thinking about going down the electric kit route, because I'm missing my drums now. Not played for a couple of years due to the complications of it all. Think I might sell my acoustic soon :(
 
I use a Roland TD8-KV set-up, with a Pearl eliminator twin bass pedal.

Suits me just fine for practising in the house.
 
Both, my acoustic kit is back at home (parents house), in my room. Parents don't mind as they're both musicians and we're in a detached house. Use my electric kit at uni and even then the neighbours complain as they can hear thumping through the thin walls!
 
I'd used an old beat-up set of real drums for years before moving and getting an Electro Jobeky/Roland/Kit-Toys/Tama setup for the lack of noise, ease of use. The Drums feel 95% of my real drums, the cymbals are much heavier but choke, swing, bell etc but it's still not 100% the same yet.

Is that in a sound proofed room? I live in a detached house but I still wonder if I brought an acoustic kit whether or not it would be heard by the neighbours.

How are you finding those TD-V2s? Thinking of splashing out soon.
 
Using a TD12 + TD9, Axis AL2 Longboards (Black), twin KD-8s and a bunch of CY12R/Cs, driving Superior Drummer 2, Metal Foundry via Edirol USB|Midi Adaptor.

Still needs some work and a bit of expansion.
 
Yay looks like I can finally join in with something here! :p

Just got my acoustic kit in my room... Parents don't mind, but i'm not too sure about the neighbors? Detached house so do you think they will get too much of an ear-full?
 
Sound proofed my detached garage about 10 years ago for this very purpose (practising and playing with band etc..)

Ahh then good times :p

I personally would just drum during respectable hours. If you have a good relationship with them, maybe just pop round and say you've bought a drum set, and if it begins to bother them to let you know so you can delve into the horribly complicated world of sound isolation :p

I have some silencer pads on atm, which seem to help a bit with the noise (especially on the ride and toms - not as well on the hi-hat and snare :p) and they also stop any damage to my sticks/heads/cymbals which helps while im trying to get a feel for the kit :)

I really need to start practicing rudiments and stuff properly... After the initial excitement is over :p
