Guild Wars 2

Really nice video here

That's actually a very nice video. One thing I felt I disliked in GW2 was the amount of button bashing and spamming skills as they come off cooldown, this video shows you that this is not the way the game should be played in order to succeed. It sort of makes sense as I felt I take a lot of damage in game.
I already knew I was playing wrong and just figured over time I will pickup how to play properly, this video though explains it first hand straight from the developers mouth. Ideally they could do with some combat tutorial as really, at least during these betas, you just get given a weapon and pushed straight into combat with one skill. You have no idea what to do other than spam it.

I really wanna get started with the game already. I figure we still have 3 months at least of betas :(

Is it safe to say if you go direct you'll get the key pretty much straight away? As like many I'm with play to try and shave £10, but considering going direct to save on heartache! :)

Mine was instant as far as I could tell. I've had bad experiences with play.com too and it's put me off pre-ordering online (Age of Conan where I didn't get the game till over a week after it was released). Digital Download directly from the company seems the safe bet and hasn't let me down yet. :)

That's one thing that always bothered me, people saying the buttons are spammy. After watching that video, it makes sense though.

The thing that took me most time to adjust to in WoW after playing GW was resources. GW was about using skills at the right time because you didn't have much mana but it regenned fast. WoW is about spamming skills in the right order whilst being mana efficient.

It makes sense that people that are used to being able to spam skills in games like WoW would see the skills as spammy in GW2 because there's only a few on short CDs. ^^

I'm trying to find a video of ranger spike from when I played but there's no decent ones I can see. It used to be if you couldn't take someone from full hp to dead in under a second, you wouldn't win against any decent teams. It got nerfed a while after I left (along with IWAY and a few other builds) and that was a long time ago so there doesn't seem to be much about from there now.

There's no disk with the retail pre-purchase versions so you still have to download the game anyway.

When two of the pre-purchase retailers are the same price as getting it direct from the developer and the third is unreliable, it's not a hard choice to cut out the middleman. :)

To those of you who have very recently pre-purchased directly from GW2, are you still awaiting to receive the download link to client?

I have pre-purchased and registered my serial, but no client link yet, I expect these will be emailed out nearer the next beta test?

Cheers

Wouldn't help as it's a Finnish store and they won't deliver outside of Finland. I was just surprised that for a change something was actually relatively cheap here.

WTB Someone in Finland to email me a key :p
Found a store I was reading it badly google translated about something for some island only :/

Yeh, the betas haven't started yet so they won't give out a link to the client as it's going to be a new build over the stress test one. If you did download the stress one you may have been able to log in apparently.

Up to 28 HOM points.. :D

But expect that beta to be smaller as its not the full game. Sys requirements say 25gb although that's worst case.

that would be with everything uncompressed i'm sure the beta will be missing video and stuff as well which would add a lot to the size of the game

The dat file is compressed? Sounds daft to add uncompression to the list of things a computer needs to do when playing games which are very demanding.

Hehe, without compression you wouldn't have half the things we do today, png's jpgs are all compressed formats, and you don't even see them if you go through a game's folders.

With games everything is compressed for the installer initially. So a 12GB download for the client. And then uncompressed to say 20GB upon install. But the files will still have some level of compression even then. I'm fairly sure that's accurate.
