Ivybridge a week earlier

I'm almost tempted to keep my Q6600 @ 3.5. However, I've bought 16GB of DDR3 ram now and my motherboard is DDR2.

Tempted to just go second hand Sandy and upgrade my GPU instead though.

been waiting a while for ivy but lately with the reported temp issues and price tag (£280) im a little put off i just want to see the official reviews once these are out this will dertermine whether i buy or not. and of course price if it goes over the £300 mark then then noway! im tempted to go for a sandy 2700k with a z77 board but not sure if i would gain a lot of performance as i currently have a i7 930?

We may be upset because IB won't reach 5GHz on a gentle breeze, but when Intel launch next week & over the coming months they will play to its strengths - lower power at lowish clocks & volts (everyone benching is pushing in the opposite direction and getting nowhere) and the greatly improved Gfx.

This is just the chip that Apple and OEMs want. It can still be great for us in in SFF or 24/7 at modest o/c.

Spenty i got whole August off work. So thats time for nice Holidays. Weather in Poland was even worse this Easter than in uk :S
Besides that i cant do overtimes at Uni outside of holiday time :(
ps. I keep to advice all my mates give me ---> Dont EVER get married less problems :D

IB is looking awesome, im only going to put a small OC on it to get it to 4ghz, it will still be a massive improvement over my current Core2Duo E6850 setup. Quad 4ghz should smash duel 3Ghz!

Don't worry I ain't planning on getting married either. I work for my money I want to spend it on what I want not what some woman wants lol.

To be fair, I am married and my wife is chipping in towards my new build because she admits she will use it every now and again for Ebay and such.

She wasn't quite sure she needed a Corsair M60 gaming mouse with sniper button for that, but she indulged me.

I was thinking of the 3820 too, purely because the Ivybridge is going to possibly be the last on socket 1155, whereas the Ivybridge-E released later this year will feature on the 2011 socket. If I remember correctly that is, any thoughts?

Correct, Intel are supposedly releasing 22nm chips for X79 later this year, most probably these chips will be perfected rather than rushed.

I'm sure she'll find a use for it, even if it's only as an excuse to moan at you!

Wow - £280 for the 3770? You can get a 3930 for a little over a hundred quid more than that and X79 mobo's are priced the same as the Z77's I'm looking at, starting to look like 3820 or 3930 and X79 for me....

Can't see the point in Ivy upgrade if you already have Sandy. Price/Performance simply isn't gonna be worth it. i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz blazes through everything anyway.

I don't see the point even if you don't have a Sandy, because you may as well pick up a Sandy anyway rather than go for Ivy.

Been waiting for this for ages. Im buy a new PC all together with ivybridge as im still using my old rubbish q6600 hehe.

Its staggering the amount of people (including myself) who are going from a Q6600. That little beasty lasted :)
