Guild Wars 2

Not a good time to draw meaingifull conclusions.

On my single GTX680 FPS ranged from 9 to 60ish FPS with GPU utilisation between 10 and 65%. Maxed out settings, lowering seemed to have no impact.

SLI/Crossfire is going to be even more problematic I imagine. This beta build is, hopefully, NO indication of retail performance.

I have a feeling a final game build will be better but still require some hefty driver updates.

You've got to remember the beta will have a ton of extra code and what not running in the background collecting data and the like which will bog down game performance.

I fully expect when the game releases it'll be silky smooth.

I was going to post this, but also touch on the fact that there have been examples where nothing changes. You'd expect the BWE to have better perfomance or have this debug build removed (As I heard, that the closed beta/stress test clients won't be upgradeable for BWE).

Proof will be there for us to see or not, if not, release... then we can complain :p Although I question collection data have such an impact on performance and lowering gpu usage. But again, I'm not one to complain about testing state!

It was playable on my 4870x2 on ONE core and in 2d clocks (over heating issues, replacing card today ;D)

Hopefully if they tone down the particle effects in the game at the moment it might help performance as it seemed overdone during the last Friday's stress test, I could barely see what was going on in some of the WvW fights.

I remember in Daoc we used to have a toggle command we could type in to turn off the particle effects in RvR

One thing that I was lead to believe different in the game was that world events were things everyone worked towards, when in fact a lot of things are your own bar you need to fill in, but other peoples actions will raise it.
Also, from what I've seen is that if you need to kill say, 10 mobs and you're in a team, you physically have to tag the mob or you don't get any credit, so there's me as a fire ele tagging all and sunder by aoes but my friends thief in single target mode slacked behind because half the stuff we engaged he never got credit for, second to that because most died before he got in range.
Even in other MMOs you got credit for things YOUR team killed, it's a slight backstep in what I expected from gw2 but, paltry in the grand scheme.

This was the only thing(aside from the edited above) I could think negatively of the game so far, it's actually quite bad how much particles effects get in the way, even doing simple world events with a a single archer that 1 hit killed if you didn't dodge was hard to see the mob because it was enveloped in flame, lava, ice, electric and god knows what else, you couldn't see it, it was just NOISE!

Which will be annoying on encounters where you need to pay attention to what the mob is doing, I just hope they have the option to dull down everyone elses effects and keep yours at a level you choose, currently no option exists and that's public knowledge from press events.

They did tone it down but it's not enough.

I'd be surprised if particle effects aren't in the options when the game's released (if they're not already). It's a classic thing that can cause a massive FPS drop and some people don't like. :) Hopefully they'll have it in there.

Sure it's a beta build and I am not saying it's supposed to run flawlessly.

But, it is a little concerning I cannot even get my GPU above 50-60% usage with the client.

I am sure it will be fine, my point was simply that asking for performance benchmarks out of this build/further Beta builds will not be so meaningful!

For those who have downloaded the beta client before. Does it run faster than the original game. I hated it downloading single files at a time at 2 KB/s and it taking forever.

I was downloading at my max connection speed the entire time.

Wonder when we will get the d/l link for the next BWE......im imagining it will be Mon/Tues next week, to give us time to download it before the weekend.

Probably staggered though so not everyone is downloading it at the same time.

That just says there wont be a stress test this weekend, not there wont be a beta weekend.. I still have hope, although it does look like next weekend now :(
