A relative's Sony Vaio's hard drive has failed. The machine was getting slower and slower, and now the machine reports no operating system found.
Listening to the drive, you can hear it whine up to life, a few rythmic clicks for a few seconds, and then stops. A second or two later it repeats this... After four attempts (or so) it gives up.
My guess the drive is completely stuffed as it won't even boot up. ie: Plugging it into a USB caddy won't allow us to get at the data.
So I suspect it needs to go off to a data recovery company who can access the platters themselves?
Anyone able to recommend a company to do this? Preferably around High Wycombe / Maidenhead area?
ps: Yes I know the relative is a complete numpty for not backing it up!
