Virgin Media hosted STEAM Content server

Well I've emailed Gabe and a person called Anna Sweet who 'is responsible for general business development, focusing on Steam distribution and Steamworks integration.' - I guess she would be interested in this?

I sent an email yesterday to:

Neil Berkett (Virginmedia CEO)
Jon James (Director of Broadband)
Paul Elworthy (Works in Jon James Team)

About a steam content server. I keep that collection of emails from when I had WoW ping issues when Cata 1st came out.

My reply was:
Professor Pixels ... tx for the mail ... a very sensible thought.

I will check in with my team on whether this makes sense for us, and get back to you.

Best

Jon

We sent an email to him when we were having trouble getting an installation crew to arrive when they said they would. Sent the email fist thing in the morning, had a response within a few hours, and had an installation crew very promptly the next day. :p

I think with companies like this, it can be a lot easier to go straight to the top, they're the people that care about the business running as smoothly as possible, not the call centre monkeys that couldn't give a toss about your problems.

Mirrors my experiences to.

I have posted this on the RPS forums and hinted that maybe they might want to put it on the "front page".

I did put it on the RPS forums originally but they have since installed a new forum.

Whats wrong with the network? Never had a problem myself except for the dumb traffic shaping which kicks in if i download at the wrong time.

Want to buy something from Steam on impulse and play it ASAP? "Woohoo - it's downloading... oh, er hang on, 1.5GB done and now it's down to 64kB/s..."

It's why I went to BT Infinity - much better. I hated the way VM wouldn't budge or sometimes even admit that shaping legitimate traffic like this was an issue. :D

Virgin let me max my connection out on Stream whenever I want. 12MB/s is lovely. :p

I wouldn't even think about using one of their shaped tariffs though. Been there and it's a miserable existsnce.

No problem with the 50mb here. Been rock solid for 3 years. Can't wait for the 100mb upgrade this autumn. As for Steam content server, an even bigger bonus! Certainly for those release day titles/preloads which are usually slow. Might make that 1 hours extra leveling time :P

I think you've completely missed the entire point of this thread. You want Virgin to sort the network out so you can download Steam games faster... That's what this thread is for, to get Virgin to use internal servers for Steam content which will increase speeds.
