HEY GIBBO...GTX 690 when is it due?

im puzzled why peeps think the 690 will be the same as the 590?

Happy Days

:D

yea me too, because according to Nvidia ( rumours) this card is way better than the 590 in every respect, it's a far more effecient/ cooler GPU.

THIS CARD MIGHT SELL WELL. ;)

finally, why anyone would want 4 x 680s in a midi tower is beyond me, it'll run far too hot, there's barely enough room in mine for two; let alone 4, in fact; i dont think the mobo has room for 4 anyway...... that's taking bling too far !

if the 690 comes with one fan like they all do then it'll be time to worry, because this doesn't look like enough cooling on a dual card

the gk104 is a lot cooler temp + voltage chip than the fermi ever was so even 2 on a card would mean it would be nearlly half the temp of a 590 plus room to oc just like all the other 680 cards...plus throw in a good heatsink and fan setup and you good to go.

If you take one look at the dual GPU card history you'll see why.

1. so will the 690 gtx pp be £699.99?

2. also will my cooler master m 700 watt be enough? (i presume not)

3. will pci 2.0 slot bottleneck dual gpu card?

Edit:

ahhh if the 690 is rumoured to release early may maybe amd will release 7990 similar time..and going by current pp amd's dual gpu will probably be cheaper...

yes but that doesn't always mean it'll be the same...

But it'd be a fairly reasonable reply to say it would follow the same trend.

Unless nv/AMD decide to kill sales of the single GPU flagships in order to upsale to dualGPU's, they won't be keeping the prices as to what you want them at

700w will be close, 750 maybe..

yes the 7990 will be out soon after, it's going to be extremely interesting, the 7990 will have more Vram at 3GB per GPU but will probably run hotter

if dual gpu's out in may...i might as well wait for a dual gpu card...a good custom 680 is nearer to £500 anyway may as well spend bit more.

but the prices wont be crazy either, because they aren't right now.... but lets take a quick look

ok they're about 600 quid now and quite rare too, they're rare on ebay as well, so lets say 600 to 700 quid, what about the 680? that'll probably be coming down in price anyway

This. Why are people seriously thinking it's going to be less than the cost of two cards in SLI? There's no precedent whatsoever.

I'm not ruling it out - just saying it's going to be extremely unlikely.

why? because the existing 590 isn't, it's less than the price of two 580s, well it was at Xmas

I'd say that the 680 will come down to £350ish and dual GPU's will start at ~£710

yes exactly, that is if i'm right... not sure, but if the price is too high i'll probably go for two 7950s

2x 7950's exactly what i was thinking also, that or 2x 670 ti's, i need a dedicated gpu, and hopefully before may 15th since diablo 3 is coming out then.
Not that i'm suggesting d3 requires that much power ...but i'd want to have my affairs in order by then. (i've waited 8 weeks without a proper gpu :( )

i noticed the crossfire 7950 the other day at only 320 quid each, so that grabbed me, but the GTX 680 will never drop that far; nor will the 7970

so it looks like one of 3 choices, i'm not sure which 7950 though and i dont think it matters, because the fastest is only 4FPS quicker than the slowest ... big deal

but i did notice something, the 7950 crossfire is slower than the old GTX 590, and by quite a margin, now this old 590 isn't even OCd and will be quite a lot slower than the GTX 690.... so even if the GTX 690 is about 700 quid it still looks interesting.

It'll be maybe 40 to 50 FPS faster than the 590
