Hi,

I'm looking to build a new system and have come up with the following components. My budget is 2k.

I already have a Thermaltake Armour Case and 1000w PSU / optical drives.

What I do with / want out of my system..

Gaming - I want to be able to play all the current games on max settings and be future proof for upcoming games.

Video streaming - I need a processor that can run the Xsplit Broadcaster while playing League of legends. I believe its CPU intensive.

Over clocking - I want to have a bit of fun over-clocking (never tried it before)

VMware - I want to be able to run a few Virtual machines (testing) While still being able to play games.

Overall i want this RIG to last for a good few years and be future proof (e.g upgradeable). I don't want to waste any money (e.g if there are components as good for less money)

Hi, and welcome :)

What make of PSU is it? Are the optical drives SATA? Do you need an OS?

EDIT: you changed it!

total : £1,470.82 (includes shipping : £10.00).

the i7 should help with your vmware, and they overclock well :)
check this cooler will fit in your case, but if it will its greats, review here
Two 7970s shouldn't struggle for a while :p

IMO :

- a 1155 i7 (SB/IB) will do an equally good job for cheaper.
- 1155 are also great with air cooling. Like a NH-D14.
- 32GB is overkill for anything outside pro image / vide editing. 16GB should be enough for VM.
- You have the Samsung quad-channel kits for cheaper if you go 16GB.
- A SSD will give you benefits.

PSU is a Enermax Galaxy 1000W PSU.

Ah well done its IDE :P I need a SATA drive.

I have windows 7 Ultimate.

Ah yeah I edited it as I linked my old build lol. Yes this is another edit as I forgot to mention the edit :P

I will price this up and see the difference.

Is it not better to get the latest socket / 8 channel DIMM slots for future proofing ?

Also the 32GB kit @ 2133MHz seems like good value for money for what it is ?

And not to mention I want to see 32Gb in the windows properties windows haha :P

I have the OCZ Agility 3 Raid Pack 2x 120GB (240GB) 2.5" SATA-3 SSDs in raid-0 ATM so will use them.

That PSU is all good then :D

SATA drives aren't expensive, and on your budget would be a drop in the ocean ;)

Whether you go for X79/Z77 really depends how much time will be gaming. For a more gaming orientated rig Z77 makes more sense really. Also note Ivy Bridge [latest 1155 CPUs] reviews should be out today, so thats another option once we know how good it is!

As far as RAM, get this as suggested by olivier renault [get 32GB if you want!]

Theres a thread about it here, it overclocks so very well!

Thats good to hear. I remember investing quite a bit in that PSU. Its great as you can disconnect the lines you don't need :P.

Your right. I think the 2011 is a waste of money as my system will be mainly gaming. I think i will go for the I7 2700k 1155 unless the Ivy Bridge is much much better. I'm sure i can overclock this to perform well. I wont be using all 6 cores anyway. What games use 4 cores even ? I would only be using them with the VM's i guess.

I will have to switch MOBO as a result. Im torn between the Asus Z77 Saber-tooth and the Gigabyte Z77-G1-Sniper 3. Have you any other recommendations on that? I cant see a mobo on this socket that has 8 dimm slots.

I have just looked up the reviews on the Samsung RAM. Looks like this will be a good choice to go with the above.

I'm glad i came to these forums! Thanks guys.

I'll be sure to post my build :P

I'd get the 2600K if you want an i7, as it's a fair bit cheaper, and the only difference is the 100Mhz between them - you'll be able to overclock to well over 4Ghz [4.5/4.8Ghz should be achieveable] anyway, so no point paying for a higher stock clock.

Motherboard, either of those are good. Personally I'd get a Gigabyte board such as this Z77X-UD3H as Gigabyte have a UK RMA base, and its a fair bit cheaper - or the UD5H if I was to spend more... Of course if you prefer either of those boards fair enough, it is your money! None of the Z77 have 8DIMM slots I'm afraid. If you're desperate for 32GB [which wont be used I imagine :p] then you'd need to go back to X79 or spend quite a bit more for 8GB sticks.

:)

Hi why do you reccomend the ATI rather than the nvidia680 i have herd that the ati have driver issues?

Its cheaper and equally as fast, thats all.

What driver issues have you heard about? I've been on holiday and everything was ok before.

I was looking at this thread. In all honesty it looked like they came to the conclusion that thte 7970's were better.

Also do you think I need two ? Would it give a noticeable increase on current games ?
