Insurance time! Gah, drives me up the wall :D

Ok, so it never costs me a lot because I knock about in old classics, but I still have to go through the chore of ringing around insurance companies and putting up with overly pushy reps at the other end. Adrian Flux were like 'ok, so you're going to go straight ahead with that are you mate?' as soon as he gave me the price. Er, not immediately buddy, since you've quoted me £65 more than you did last year with a bigger excess and I just insured the other one for less which is worth more. 'Oh well I don't reckon you're going to get a better quote. Let me just see if we can do anything' *pause* 'Yeah this looks much better: £xxx bang on'. So that's 99p less than what you said before...

Hold on, now received a text from them with £30 less. Cheeky sods.

Adrian are always like "so what's your renewal price?" 10minutes later going through all the questions, Oh look we have come in £50 cheaper.... Would you like to take that?? We cant guarantee it for longer than the day.
Go off somewhere else and its far cheaper, back to Adrian, "we can match that" without a thought.

Why don't they just give you a good deal to begin with they dont have to be the cheapest just a good enough saving to hold back on searching.

3 years, Adrian Flux have done that now....

I used to have the same with Admiral. It was a yearly ritual where the price would go up £200 every year... only to come back down again when I said I wasn't renewing. They seem to have got the message the last couple of years and havent bothered with any large increase for a while.

My Admiral policy went down by £15 this year, now paying £225 fully comp on my '99 Focus, with 8yrs protected no claims, legal cover, courtesy car etc.

Did a few searches and they were all around the £300 mark so I bit their hand off!

I ran a quote through Moneysupermarket.com and cheapest is £425, renewal with LV was £499 (BMW 335i Conv).

I must be a one off here, direct line I have been with for 6 years and every time the renewal is either cheaper or a few quid over any other quote I receive,

£420 pa FC 530i 6yrs NCB and business use

I recently left Flux after they wanted triple my old premium for changing address and ended up somewhere else for 1/3 of what they were asking.

Normally you can get great prices from them, but you have to be a total dick and pit one company against each other which is frankly exhausting and shouldn't be necessary in the first place just to get a decent price for something that you can't easily insure through the normal companies, but it's either that or get shafted.

Admiral/Elephant are still the winners for me.

Just renewed last week for £715 FC inc business cover. 24yrs old, 2yrs NCB.

Didn't think that was too bad considering the renewal quote they gave me was £980!

If this is for a classic try carole nash. Just been quoted £140 for an MGB Roadster - agreed value with breakdown. That's with my dad as the main driver and me down as a named driver. This is garaged in a high risk post code too.

I had that scenario with Privilege for 6 years on the trot then I went and modified the car so that it wasn't competitive to go with them anymore.

Currently on my third year with Adrian Flux and I can agree with the fact that they are a PITA at renewal time. I actually feel guilty phoning up the other insurers because I know that I'm going to end up with Flux as they will come up with the best deal but I need to bounce them off the others in a pointless game of insurance quote ping pong.

Tried Peter James Jonny? Worth a bell :)
Yep, they were £1 more than Flux's texted quote, but they'd get my business based on the better customer service :D

Currently, Footman James are in the lead by a clear £9.04p but with recovery and European cover included. I'm waiting for a call back by the guys I've got the hotrod insured with and we'll see who comes out on top :)

Wow, Hagerty added it onto my other policy for a whopping £108!

FC with breakdown cover, can't complain

I asked them who it's actually insured with and it's Hiscox, who have often been the underwriters when I used Flux in the past.

I've just got off the phone with Premium Choice. They wanted to give me fully comp for £699 with a £500 excess, and then offer me 'excess protect' for a further £48 that would mean I wouldn't have to pay all of it.. This sounded odd so I just went for 3rd PFT at £629 with a £250 excess!

It's renewal time for me as well, are any of you guys with Direct Line?

I've been with them since 2009, always came out the cheapest every year since and always renewed no problem. However, when changing the insurance over to my new car last week, after sorting that out the chap informed me that I could also renew the insurance ove the phone. Though before they would allow me to renew with them, they wanted to take a £110 deposit up front - even though I am a renewing returning customer! Basically it looks as if I am a new customer?!?

They said that it was a new legislation that has recently come into place, has anybody else had this as well? Strangely though, the automated renewal letter that I got through the post last week never mentions anything about taking a deposit.

Admiral gave me a lower renewal price than I could find elsewhere new, surprising and good at the same time.
