Fish! Battered or breaded?

Pft, I'm not talking about shop bought rubbish. My brother is a fsherman so I get fresh bream, bass, cod, pollock etc. on a regular basis. Om nom nom.

So Cook it proper like with the beer and the batter and the drippin' mmmm drippin'!

Or face the Wrath of the Chippy gods!

edit: ahh but I also note you're a Southener and as such will never be able to cook proper Fish 'n' Chips as all Southern Fish and Chips are rubbish!

Cod is better battered, plaice is better breaded and that's why, as Malevolence has said, chippies do it that way.

I don't really care either way, I like both, it's far more important that it's been fried right.

You say "a piece of cod please"

and they give you 2 bits?

In Glasgow, they do. Haddock is our normal up here, some chippies do cod but you'd need to specifically ask for it.

Interesting that the special is area dependent. In the chippy I worked in, and the ones I eat in, a special is always breaded. An extra big one would just be a "jumbo fish and chips".

It didn't use to be that way. A while back there was some kind of problem with cod, and they had to use small ones, they started using two in each supper at that point... and now you have a small fish supper or a fish supper. It's moving to the point where it'll be a fish supper or a large fish supper.

Also... yum.

with fish breadcrumb from fish shop i live in north east of scotland.. you need wash fish then whisk egg then put fish on egg then put on breadcrumb then cover properly then put on frying pan and then when done then add with boiled potatoes and some vegs then half of lemon on fish.. lovely taste.. dont like battered cos it too fatty as breaded is fresh fish also make fish milk with onion.. very good one, usual buy fish shop included smokie..

all the chip shops near me are minging - i haven't been in years. :(

i usually get breaded haddock when buying from the supermarket.
