Was just driving through Gravesend town centre on the way home from work and heard a fast jet overhead. Looked out the window to see it, and as I did so an AWACS plane with 2 Eurofighters in close formation came over, quite low (5K feet perhaps?)

There aren't any airshows in the area that I know of. Is this part of the Olympic security manoeuvres, or has the War begun and I just don't know about it yet?

The most we get here is the odd Chinook flying over so seeing an AWACS doing the rounds was probably the highlight of my commute

Quick, internet, etc.

There are many exercises happening in preparation for airspace and procedure changes during the Olympic period.

Will just be olymipcs stuff :p We get C17s taking off and doing passes over the coast here. Awesome!

I figured as much. I heard a jet over my friends house in Greenhithe a few months ago, but hadn't seen anything else yet.

Don't worry, it's only the government pretending there is a threat to our security so they can remove our civil liberties.

Phew.

Part of Op Ellamy (Libya) homecoming ceremonies, they certainly did the rounds. Reported over Suffolk and Essex also.

probably a rendition flight in progress of the luton terror suspects to a neutral country for muchos torture ?

I was lucky enough to see a Vulcan a couple of times at airshows. The word "loud" doesn't even begin to describe it  It felt like somebody was pulverizing my bones to dust with a jackhammer.

Edit to add a couple of other loud ones: Harrier in VTOL mode, and Concorde. Shame that the Vulcan and Concorde no longer grace our skies on a regular basis :(
