The way people are going on, it seems to me they expected ivy to be a revolutionary CPU?

I'm looking to do a complete build, so am personally not disappointed by IB, i understand it has some issues but i think they're blown out of proportion.

For example the heat issue, correct me if im wrong, but heat ISNT an issue until you go past a certain voltage, 1.3? however i've seen plenty of suggestions that 4.5 is achieveable at stock volts.... My understanding is that heat is actually quite good / at least on par with SB until that certain point, and then it jumps... I can see that if you were hoping for an overclocking god over what SB currently provides you'd be disappointed...

As for the igpu annoying people, well we are seeing the starts of technology to utilise it along with a discrete card so it doesn't bother me, it also provides a testing backup if you suspect a gpu failure etc...

Just basically, were people expecting to much? It's not like its severely behind in performance, it may not be as far ahead as people hoped but that doesn't make it a poor buy imo.... (Price depending)

Completely agree.

For me the benchmarking and overclocking results were pretty much what I expected. It's not as if we need to push an IB CPU to 5GHz in order for it to be useful. Even at stock speeds it will rip through most applications with ease.

I just get the feeling that people were expecting something completely crazy like a 7GHz overclock on the stock cooler :D :D

Also agree, the only thing that’s disappointing me at the moment it I don’t know how much it’ll be (from Overclockers) and when I can expect it, I’ve taken next Tuesday of to build the PC and want it by then (pure coincidence that it’s also United v City on the Monday…)

I'm very surprised that they haven't started popping up on UK sites. Intel must be leaning heavily on the retailers...

Still, pay day tomorrow so all good :D

Already have a z77 board, RAM and a cooler now. Just seen a new retail 2600k for £180.

So difficult to wait. 3570K should be cheaper than that, so should be the better choice. I have no issues with it not overclocking higher than 4.5ghz.

I totally agree aswell, when I get my new ivy bridge i5 build, I have no plans to overclock it beyond 4GHz anyway, I will be too busy gaming and using my new build for the purposes that I built it for. Trying to improve benchmark scores just to tell others about it is not somthing I have time for.

i hope im wrong too .. nothing would please me more. it is mentioned else where on the internet though so i hope that's wrong also

I would have liked clearer news on whether the average retail chip did 4.5 at reasonable temps / volts, but apart from that for new builders it is a fine chip.

well it kind of makes sence... why cant we pre-order from anywhere? I see loads of other products that can be pre-ordered why not these.

I dont think it's because of it spoiling the sales of the SB chips either because there are loads of reviews out there and most people would have already made up their minds either to go SB or IB.

Again.. I hope im wrong

Yes it improves your Benchmarks, but also improves other things like decoding, gaming just to name two but its free. Its funny how Intel will insure your CPU if you fry it by OC, for a few dollars more.
