No IB Pre-Order? Sigh let us use our vouchers!!

^^ not going to argue as have no facts one way or another - so I can't doubt or disagree with what you say - its none of my business either

just if mark-ups that low - with free postage I can't see any profit being made whatsoever

*********** or anywhere else for that matter are not ALLOWED to put the for pre-order. They aren't ALLOWED to ship or put them on the website until after the agreement with Intel is up on Sunday. I'm sure this isn't ideal for Overclockers either.

Does anyone actually know a general price range the new ib 1155 i7 will retail near ? really want rid of this 2300 i5 lol
Some $ prices have appeared on slides and one or two UK prices popped up on google. From these I get a reasonable UK estimate from 0.8 x $ which means about £170 for the i5 and £250 for the i7. The upper limit for early birds will be £190 and £290 I think.

We are not stupid and the current SB prices are there for all to see. An internet search takes seconds - retailers will be sweating and cannot afford to overprice. We can afford to wait it out.

OCUk Sell a lot of things below what they buy them for.
No business does that

Looking to buy new IB system, upgrading from Q6600, so if anyone feels generous and would like to donate a discount voucher they don't plan on using I will put in an order for everything I need besides the processor before the deadline.

thats not good :(

why would Intel choose a Sunday for release day ?

didn't with a recent gpu launch one retailer launch pre-orders early - and all other retailers followed suit ?

For the Z77 launch - one retailer blinked at COB Friday and others quickly chased. They can always plead to Intel they werent the one to break embargo and need to compete.

Still the NDA is being followed very strictly - we've already had 20 identical "reviews" we might get a dozen identical listings on Sunday.

Thats confused me too :s
Maybe that is to allow people to order on the sunday and put up prices on websites and whatever to entice people to order or go out to purchase on the Monday?

re the Sunday release date - nothing of this release schedule makes sense to me

(1) releasing mobos 2 weeks before the CPUs (seems odd)
(2) lifting NDA for chips 1 week before able to purchase (seems odd)
(3) releasing CPUs for purchase on a Sunday ??

seems drawn out to me ? time to allow for more stock in suppply chain ? or stock availability ? I just don't get it - none of it makes much sense to me

I would have thought a nice hard launch on same day of Z77 mobos + Ivy cpus - all ready to buy - would have gained lots of positive publicity etc - who knows.

Gibbo himself said it when someone else was bitching about not being able to use free postage + 10% off soooo if you think you're right ask Gibbo.

My theory:
New motherboards- To help to shift remaining stock of 2nd gen CPU's
Lifting NDA a week before- to encourage people to buy them provided results are good (which i will add, that im fairly impressed)
Purchase on a sunday- As before

I heard from a good source that OcUK have had stock of the chips for weeks. At least 2 if not more. I don't think stock is the issue

I can see your logic re mobos.

re buying on the Monday - I'd buy that argument if we weren't in the digital age ...

but who - that has waited to upgrade their CPU - will see prices/availability for order on the Sunday - and think to themselves - great prices - I'll buy/order the next working day - ie Monday

why not the Sat so people could order for Monday ?

or Fri - so people could order for Sat delivery ?

if stock is available - don't see why they'd be a delay - I mean the Sunday is not a special day is it ? its not last day of April or anything

Yes they do, it's a business practice known as a loss leader. Selling products below the cost of acquiring them in order to stimulate the sale of other, more profitable products.
This isnt tins of beans on special offer, these are £200 items sold at precise but positive margin. You wont stay in business selling your mainline items at a loss.

DRAM is £5 a GB but CPUs are upto £400? Some loss!

Go check the prices on a few of the GPU's/CPU's/Motherboards that OCUk sell with the prices of competitors, just with free postage it makes OCUk undersell themselves....

Each of us know the price of each item on our shopping list to the pound on half a dozen retailers. It's a buyers market.
