UEFA Champions League/Europa League 24/25/26 April *** Spoilers ***

This^^ I thought Ribery and Robben were pretty poor, and were greedy sometimes trying to take on a few people. Bayern should have put the tie to bed with a few opportunities that popped up for gomez but you can always count on the Germans to win in penalties i suppose.

Robben missed his best chance but put in several good crosses, worked the wing well, actually put in defensive work, held up the ball and was by far the best Bayern attacker. Ribery on the other hand did nothing useful, refused to pass most of the time, was lazy as hell and offered nothing all game long.

Sometimes the luck is with you and sometimes it isn't. I honestly don't think Mourinho leaves Madrid until they win the Champions League nor will they want to let him go if he keeps up his lack of press attention rather than his controversial approach for his 1st season.

I don't blame him for thinking it was over that Ronaldo PK set up the rest of the shootout if I'm being honest what a save it was from the keeper (no choking involved from Ronaldo or Kaka) both were on target and decent penalty kicks. Bayern let them back into it only for that idiot Ramos to send it to the moon to say I was gutted was an understatement I'm also a bit of a Mourinho fanboy (Inter fan and all that)

Neither penalties were good, Ronaldo's infact was worse than Kaka's, no where near the corner and no where near the power he usually uses. Had he struck his normal penalty, power and into the corner the keeper wouldn't have come close, the keeper went the right way, Ronaldo's and Kaka's were pretty easy saves, obviously neither were as bad as Ramos's :p

obviously neither were as bad as Ramos's

Why the hate for his penalty? It was up there with the best.

It was so good it will forever be remembered in the stars. The sheer quality of the finish was sky high.

It's not that hard to work out is it? If neither team are at the pinnacle of their domestic league then the quality of player on show and the quality of play isn't going to be what it could. This is the Champions League final we're talking about not your standard run of a mill cup final.

Dont get me wrong this isn't me saying that neither team deserve to be there because both Chelsea and Bayern deserved to beat both Barca and Real respectively but I just see it being a final that lacks any real qualty (Mata and Robben being the two stand out players imo)

Also how after tonight anyone can come on here talking up the supposed quality of Gomez and Ribery genuinely baffles me (and certainly in the latter's case tonight wasn't the first time I've been well and truly left wondering what all the fuss is about).

You are clueless, literally live in a dream world.

Liverpool won the CL and finished 5th, last season Barca played Man Utd both finished 1st and Man United get outplayed and made to look like a Championship team.

What about Man City/United both going out of the Europa league playing world class players against mid table teams! Stick you your sofa mate.

All said and done Chelsea's thriller was FAR more entertaining than last nights beautiful game (I guess that means I'm not a purist lol).

Question for more me now is if Chelsea go on and win it you would assume that Di Matteo keeps his job. However, if they come second best it will be interesting to see what happens as his record has been great.

Admittedly the players did not want to play for AVB more so than his tactics being bad (imo). But Chelsea's record has been great under Di Matteo...

Sheer madness if Matteo doesn't get offered the full time spot, even if he doesn't win the final.

Give him a fresh season (or two, managers should get more than one) and I'm sure he can turn chelsea into title contenders again.

You do realise nothing you've said there is an actual counter argument to what I said don't you? :o

Ribery is a **** though, him and Dani Alves are a disgrace, every slight touch and they are rolling around like they have just taken an arrow to the knee.

there were poor 2nd to mr oscar winner himself pepe, ribery went in on him and caught his arm, you'd have thought he'd snapped his arm into 3/4 pieces the way he was rolling about :D.

as for the talk about gomez, i think its more about the quality of his finishing last night with the easier chances, considering how lethal he usually is in the Bundesliga.

Where you getting that figure from? Are you sure it includes CL as well because that sounds more like domestic only (even then it seems low).
I can't seem to find a figure on the Official BM website, but pretty much everywhere else suggests more than 14. However I'll admit the number ranges from about 15 - 23

How can stats be that far apart :p

Seems like quite a few sources aren't giving assists via winning penalties starting this season.... which is probably why the big difference for Ribery of all people :p

Young + assists via penalty winning would be higher than he is now. Stat's are becoming quite hilarious as multiple sources decide on different counting of stats. Last year some counted Ronaldo's deflected goal, others didn't. Key passes, failed tackles often being counted as only fouls rather than failed tackles as well so lots of people make dozens of tackles a year, but their tackle success/failure doesn't match up to total tackles at all, meaning tackle success rate is insanely misleading depending on the source.

Someone can have made 50 tackles in a season, have a tackle success rate of 90%, yet only made 5 tackles successfully, with the other 45 all being fouls and not counted. That's one reason why Comolli basing an entire season around purely stats at the moment is mental. Baseball is really very basic stats that haven't changed in decades, everyone is on the same page and they are all pretty meaningful. Every year one stat becomes "unimportant" to the stat guys and another is something to base buying a player on, next year its irrelevant again.

That is by and large why goals and to a degree obviously, assists are relatively finite, mostly accurate, and pretty much the most important stats.

So, the question Egon asked still stands. Where did you get your stats from :D:p
