Guild Wars 2

Is this actually true? It isn't in GW1 iirc, you either have to buy them with balth points or buy them.

I do love that feature, being able to make a PvP character at any time is brilliant and I wish more MMOs had it. However as you said its moire a convenience thing and doesn't actually effect the PvP.

Its true in GW2 that barely has any skills which you simply unlock in PVE by using your weapons!

PVP characters in GW2 - all skills available on creation.

Even on PVE characters actually:

http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/pvp/pvp-overview/

When a player takes a character into PvP, they are granted access to all the necessary skills, items, etc. Characters are set to the maximum level, putting everyone on an even playing field. This makes player skill more important than time invested in a particular character. When you take your character back to the PvE environment, you return to the skills and gear you had there, but the game will save your last PvP setup. You'll also be able to store templates for builds. This way, you can try out new stuff in PvP but still easily return to your familiar builds.

Perfect, make level 1 PVE character, play PVP with an equal footing right from the start. I dont think that the PVP in any other MMORPG can even be compared at all that, al other such games are blatantly inferior for PVP.

bhavv I've only been discussing here in this thread for a few days and I can already see that trying to present a reasoned, rational debate to you is a hopeless task. You're about as fanatical in your faith about GW as that fella in your signature was about a certain other type of questionable ideology. It's tiresome, please give it a rest.

Having played the vanilla PvP system to rank14 and the first 3 seasons of the Arena system, I can see WoW's PvP merits. It doesn't do esports style balanced play as well as GW1, but then again that's not what it is aiming for really. Battlegrounds offer an experience and a style of competition that are far different (and to some people, far more fun). You'll never listen to that, though. You seem to have staked some of your personal pride and ego on proving that GW1 is the 'worthiest' of MMO's, and the most 'skill demanding'. It's worrying that you seemingly have so much of your character (or at least your forum persona) invested in this gambit.

I think its a case of both sides of the argument have valid points for and against and one of those "marmite" issues.

Fact is GW2 has a bit of both, compeitive play is normalised in arenas allowing for true balance and skill to shine through for those that love it and the WvW elements where high end gear could make a difference.

It just so happens that their mechanic is one I support and will not be to everyones taste.

You can, can't you? I thought you can play free till level 20 on Retail, Battlegrounds open at level 10.

New accounts only, I cant log in on my retail purchased account without paying for a subscription.

Simply the worst thing, new accounts can play for free, old accounts that bought the retail game cant. Stupidly ridiculous.

PvP in RPG games is inferior to other genres fullstop because of the hefty amount of RNG present, so if you want to split hairs over skill caps and w/e undermines them you can draw straight back to the core mechanics of any of the games before you start comparing slight feature differences between them.

Also as has been mentioned you can do exactly that anyway in WoW on tournament realms, but besides that gearing your char at 85 on a regular realm is very quick, any people taking PvP serious in WoW will all be in the same level of gear.

The flaw to PvP in RPG games like WoW and I'm almost positive will be present in GW2 is how composition tends to overrride both skill and gear, leading several classes to be severely unrepresented whilst a large amount of the top end pairings are rather boring mirrors purely because theres no real counter to the current season/patches/expansions golden comp.

It takes like 2 seconds to create a new trail account though?

I'm guessing you're switching over from ToR to this wab?

Yeah I will be mate ended up been very disappointed with tor, Ilum withs its world PvP was the highlight of the game once they took that away I kinda struggled to log in, and as I have been away a lot its even harder to get back into it, we looking now to appoint a new guild leader for swtor in my stead.

(excuse the dodgy voice its mine :p)

I think very little describes the guild better than these videos, and its this that makes me love MMO and being in a semi decent social guild.

And once the Devs removed it well ....

^^ Good grief, it will be sooooo good to be able to actually play an MMO without all that screen clutter.

It takes like 2 seconds to create a new trail account though?

Why would I want to do that when I already paid for the game and have characters with progress on them?

Tesco have the pre-purchase in at £38.71 + 8% through Quidco.

Might have to go with that. Not going to get it in time for this weekends Beta though. :( ah well can't have it all I guess.

Some MMO's don't pretend to be anything other than time-rewarding. It's an oldschool, hardcore system that doesn't favour casuals or weekend-warriors. And so what? Again, they're not pretending to be anything else. Some people do play for the treadmill and grind. It's just a different game-design philosophy - and it's not for everyone. Doesn't mean it is inherently flawed or 'wrong'.

yea i hate this model. grindfest no thanks

I want mine out of the house and the kids - peace and quiet. I have appropriated (not using uTorrent of course heaven forbid) the last season of Grey's Anatomy so she can curl up and watch Dr Sexy or whatever the hell his name is whilst I can get some peace and quiet in the evening.

I managed to ship the daughter of to Mamie's (Gran) house for the weekend and the wife is working (from home but at least she'll be quiet!) only the crazy puppy to worry about.

I stocked up on beer but had a few last night and will probably do the same tonight so I need to restock up tomorrow then I'm all set!!

Can't wait!

The guild name is The Immortals and our address is www.mmo-guild.co.uk, or www.immortals-clan.co.uk both the same place.

Edit:
Think I should add there has not been a successful just OcUk guild, a few have tried and they always seem to fail for one reason or the other, we been going since SWG, maybe a lot new members as people come and go but we still going, we have quite a lot of ocuk'ers in the guild on swtor, I'm not sure as of yet how many will stay with us for GW2, but I'm guessing from conversations most will. I think in swtor, we had more ocuk'ers in the guild than all the others combined .. so time will tell!

Sent you a pm on your site:)

It may be worse to some people but not all, I agree with you but there will be those that don't. Opinion and perspective are things we are all entitled to, whether we think other people are right or wrong.

And its always going to be worse than GW1 / GW2 PVP.

Thats whats ruined Fifa 12 11v11 as well. its become a freaking WOW version of Football games.

unless u hack your virtual pro player or play 10000 games against the computer putting the ai level to ultra dumb and scoring 100 left foot shots from outside the box to make a minor increase in "weak shot" attrubute. you are screwed

Well how about if Blizzard allowed me to log into their servers for free to try out PVP on a newly created character so I could accurately compare the two for PVP?

.... Oh wait

So your real complaint is that the game has a subscription model? OK then, let's have a 3 page debate about your thriftiness. Great argument
