Guild Wars 2

My internet is not brilliant but I got Ilum working ok if that counts for something! But I do believe it is more an optimisation issue and will be solved. But for a while I had less hassle with lag in CBT4 to Korean for Archeage.

Ilum ran mostly ok for me there were days it was rubbish but on the whole it ran OK, as you can see from the vids I posted, I just wish/hope that they have the lag issue in hand in GW2 as I am really looking forward to this :).

Never fails to amaze me that people always want every MMO to be a wow killer, all I want is this game to be fun, and enough bodies that we can have some serious world PvP.

On the point of raids I do think they slightly missing the point, they should have and I think may well still in the future put out at least 8 man raids.

My reason behind this is that having them in can never really hurt the game, but not having them could very well hurt the game.

Think other hope is that they do put in a lot of guild oriented things ..I.E leveling the guild, quild quests (that yes even randoms nearby can join) but still give the guild a reward.

LOL, I just finished downloading GW2 and it had the auto-play tickbox ticked, so I was typing a post and all of a sudden...

"HMMM?! WHAT THE--oh, sweet."

there'll always be aspects in a game which can be changed for improvement, but aren't because a loud minority of the fanbase will implode in rage should you even touch the quirks in the system.

This is entirely true, but most of the suggestions made by players entering one game from another are absolutely terrible and wouldnt actually do anything to make the game better.

I dont understand how GW / GW2 wont cater for hardcore players. This hasnt really been explained or addressed, nor has it been explained what 'hardcore' actually means in this context.

GW1 was a very hardcore game, when you tuned on hard mode and played through through much of the game. Surely it cant be made too hard that its impossible to beat, but the challenge level throughout the wold game was significantly higher than any other online game I've played.

So for me, it catered perfectly for my 'hardcore' requirement, because the difficulty was hard throughout the game.

On the point of raids I do think they slightly missing the point, they should have and I think may well still in the future put out at least 8 man raids.

But in GW2, doesnt raid = make your own group for dynamic events? Raids are already there, they are just called something else.

Good post! And I agree with a lot of your points. From the commentary and community feedback I have heard so far, it's clear that the GW2 developers are trying to please everyone of all levels and involvements - which is no easy task. You have to at least respect them for aiming so high (and wide)!

I register this sort of post... but, I remain unconvinced. Dynamic world events sound interesting but I'm not sure they will truly 'replace' raids and the raiding experience. If anything it'll be like the world bosses in WoW (not counting the encounters particular designs), which were always a bit lacking in oomph and power compared to the proper raids - more of a side-obligation than anything. For one thing I can't see how PvE-focussed guilds will sustain themselves just going around completing dynamic events. There is a certain sort of pleasure in going to a raid instance on a weekly-timer and slowly progressing through it with your closeknit group, in a persistent saved instance, until the week's end (and your successful completion, of course). It doesn't quite seem to fill the gap. I'm ready to be surprised and wow'ed, though.

Got a source?

What could they possibly hope to gain from over stressing peoples CPUs?

Ive posted it and quoted it once and twice already.

Now three times, the forum is down though I think:

In short, the game isn't fully optimised for GPUs and more so relies on the CPU (which would explain a lot from the last beta).

We can only hope they do in fact sort it out and it isn't just a temporary "Oh, we are testing thingz" which some devs do in fact say and do.

This is taken from the horses mouth, i'm posting it for the second time too:

KNOWN ISSUES
Hardware Compatibility

Display: the graphics-settings slider has only a minor impact on performance at this time.
We are currently optimizing Guild Wars 2, making ongoing improvements to the game’s frame rate. Presently, the game is CPU-bound on most high-end systems, so lowering graphics settings or upgrading your video card may not have a large impact on performance.
On older or lower-end machines, it is recommended that you try disabling reflections to improve frame rate.
Installing the game client into the Program Files directory on Windows Vista or Windows 7 can lead to issues with the patching process.
It is advised that you install the game to another folder or launch it as an administrator.
Forcing anti-aliasing through AMD Catalyst™ Control Center or AMD VISION™ Engine Control Center typically results in a black screen when playing. ATI cards that are known to cause the black-screen issue while using the latest drivers (12.3) include:
HD 2900
HD 5770
HD 6970

Windows TDR (Timeout Detection and Recovery) will sometimes restart a user’s graphics drivers if they become unresponsive, resulting in a notification that the graphics driver has been restarted.

Alienware ATI Laptops: the Guild Wars 2 client does not restore properly after being minimized.

Currently, adjusting the core clock speed of the GPU or CPU typically results in lower performance.
It is advised that you leave core clock speeds at factory defaults.

AMD CrossFire™ and NVIDIA® SLI™ are not currently supported.
These features should be disabled while running the game.

Enabling NVIDIA 3D VISION® may cause a crash on some systems.

If you experience a crash while this setting is enabled, it is recommended that you disable it in the NVIDIA Control Panel.

Funny that people complain about any arguments and there not being any information on the game, but when information is posted it doesnt get read.

wait what, how and overclocking adversely effect the performance? >.< that makes no sense to me!

Maybe they're running guild wars 2 on the same engine brink was made with, that game always crashed when my cpu was overclocked...

By the way, I'm not being serious about the engines being the same, but they might have the same effect.

I have no idea either, the mod in GW2guru's technicians corner is going to be testing the game first thing in the beta with his CPU overclocked and at stock speed.

If you want to keep up with all the latest information, you should simply ead that forum when its working.

It would also be wise to understand the key words of 'currently' and 'presently'.

The beta is not using the final build / engine that the final game will be using.

I thought it had the same performance ( very poor) from last years eurogamer in oct and didn't seem improved from the last beta, quite suprised that they spent that long and stll never solved it
