Guild Wars 2

I thought it had the same performance ( very poor) from last years eurogamer in oct and didn't seem improved from the last beta, quite suprised that they spent that long and stll never solved it

This is discouraging... one of the biggest requirements for a mass-market MMO that aims for any sort of popularity is obviously an engine that scales very well.

Musta been something else, not that GW1 needs 2 GPUs haha. lotro in particular though has atrocious multi GPU support. double your frames just by turning Xfire off.

Well optimisation is the final stage.....one of the reasons you have Beta at the end, as this is the stage they do those very optimisations...trying to guess without open betas is impossible.

One thing to note and i know its totally related, it GW2 using a modded version of the GW1 engine, and on my current system with is not actually the spec in my sig but a i5 2500k CPU and a nvidia 570 i was getting around 700-800fps in GW1 a month or so ago, so they clearly know how to make a engine that scales well.

A few questions.

Where do I download the beta from currently?

I should be receiving my pre order pack tomorrow, will I have to use the bloody awful @NCsoft as my login or do you get to use just your email?

Will I be able to earn the GW1 rewards once GW2 has launched (i.e. finish off a few HoM once GW2 is launched :p?).

Finally, do ArenaNet have their own site for account management or is it that horrendous NCSoft site which makes me want to die?

True...but these Beta weekends will feed data back to the devs to help them optimise further......if it came out still optimised poorly then id be dissapointed.

So would I and I dearly hope it won't but SWTOR did but I expect that was because PVP was a complete afterthought for them along with a whole shed of other stuff. I am confident they can do it another beta I am in can cram 200 people in an area I don't see why they can't.

I think they do, https://account.guildwars2.com/login NCsoft still control master accounts, but registering your copy should link your GW1 to GW2.

Thanks for posting that info earlier about getting the most out of the beta, some interesting stuff there.

I really like that GW2 will have Dynamic Events but they will be not be comparable to a 25-40 man raid.

Ive spent a lot of time playing Rift which had both and being mostly a player who runs around solo the Dynamic Events were ideal.. I could jump in and get involved with whats going on and leave without needing to speak to anyone.

Because a dynamic event is so casual they end up needing to be easy when you have just a random mix of people with very average gear/experience/ability. While they make dynamic events compensate for there being more players in an area by making the event more difficult they will also take into consideration some people are just going to stand around and not help out at all. There is no good balance other than making dynamic events a little too easy.

I underlined the two biggies. My wife and I missed a great deal from moving on from events as we did not know they were effectively part of a cascade of events and therefore missed a great deal and didn't really get such a good feel of things. (well moved on means me being impatient if I were truthful)

And have you already played GW2 to conclude that it is easy, or are you simply spreading the same rumors as just about every other raid fan?

Video reviews of the earlier betas I have watched have said that GW2 is a pretty difficult game to play, and there's very little you will be able to beat unless you learn how to play the game well.

Betas now are generally a chance for game makers to release a game that still needs work and then when people complain say "but hey, it's only beta". Most MMOs still need work when they're released. GW2 has had good feedback in terms of it looking like a finished product since early betas, hopefully it should be pretty polished.

Yes GW2 is pretty difficult to play but the dynamic events in videos so far not so difficult. Trust me.. you will find dynamic events will be an enhancement to the solo player to get them easily moving into combat joining other players and not really a true raiding experience.

You can object to what i say of course.. but you may find i am right!

Understand that i will spend 90% of most MMOs soloing.. adding dynamic content means i will spend the majority of time playing with others instead of just solo which is really the point of dynamic content.. its not to provide a huge challenge but to enhance gameplay by getting people to work together with ease.

Im taking my PC home tommorrow, where I have 2 meg internet instead of the 20 currently, im gonna cry if a few hundred meg - 1 gb patch turnsup tommorrow, been downloading updates a few times ive clicked it recently.
