Yeah will do, it's the Saphire 7950 OC we talked about earlier that I ordered. Won't be able to do a rundown until midweek next week as I'm busy over weekend and need to hide it from the other half (ordered for a friend ;0) )
But will post on differences and how it goes.

I have i5 I may think about overclocking as supposed to be easy enough to do so will look into that too.

The Saphire card is supposed to have a bios switch for 2 different fan profiles on side. One for quiet and one for better cooling. Obv will go for later and see what we can get from it. Not going to try for anything silly changing volts. Just going to see if it gets a nice boost over what it gets out of box.

Sure ya not joining the ride or you got the willpower to hold off for now!? :0)

hi
no i'm holding off, but i cant last much longer... the Sapphire has a scale for adjusting the fan speeds too, it looks easy to OC, it has good software

my I5 OCs automatically so that'll be interesting too, that is if it still works ok after i lapped it ..... this scares me, i should never have fooled around with it.

my PC case is well cooled, plus has two layers of soundproofing, tripple fan intake dust covers etc, i'm like a sad geek, i'm always fooling around with it.

Just do double check.

A PC power and cooling 750W silencer is still capable of running this card right even if its 4years old ??

For what it's worth, I moved from a EVGA 570oc to the vtx 7970 for one reason - it's the only one I could afford. Running at 2560x1440, the 570 was ok but not great. I wasn't convinced about buying a 2gb 680 (if I'd have known more last time, I'd have bought a 2.5gb 570), and there wasn't a way on earth I could afford a 4gb 680. So when this deal (plus the 10%) came up, I bought it and I'm mostly pleased I did. I can't see that level of value anywhere else right now. So do I think the 680s are better cards with better drivers? Yeah, probably. Do they offer the £/performance value that this particular deal did, not even close.

Not keen on the red? :p

NO i'm not either but dont forget it's upside down so you wont see it, i dont know why it's red, should've been granite grey.

the other cards look much nicer and only perform better because they've been overclocked for you, but you're bound to do this yourself anyway, so this is a bit of a rip off. the only important thing is the card has a dual fan coler which will allow you to OC higher

this 7970 has its ``ultimate`` OC figures on the web review for this card....but i'm not sure what they are for the 7950, but i'll adjust it to the Sapphire's numbers and then go up from here, but not too far..... it'll be quite interesting

Question to the guys who own this card.

How much higher does the heatsink rise above the PCB, and how much wider is it than the traditional two slot design? Form pictures the cooler appears to be about 1cm taller than stock and maybe half a cm wider than two slot. Just wondering they will fit within a new Sugo build where space is at a premium.

If it fits, I'll need to order the Sugo SG07 without the window option:).

Also a couple of shots showing the cooler.... Just for the fun of it... :-)

If you're getting an SG07, don't bother with this card and get the MSI Lightning instead. Same price, better card.

I am pretty sure the lightening cooler will be too tall for an SG07. It looks a good 20mm+ above the the PCB and SG07's only have 10-15mm to play with (I have built a lot of them). It also seems to be a fair bit wider than 2 slots.

if i sell any paintings next week at my next show i'll buy the 7970 as soon as possible, i've had enough of all this waiting plus posting in etc, it's getting on my nervs, i'll get the 7970 sapphire.

we know roughly what the 670 will be like specs wise, big deal, it doesn't excite me at all, i dont care if it's 5% more powerful, plus the ref card doesn't look as good as the 7970, it's just another dead boring 680 clone

haha, well I know what you're going through, i'm very much in the same boat as well. I've been waiting since early feb without a dedicated GPU it's driving me nuts. But my gut feeling says wait a little bit longer.....and I always trust my gut feeling.

wait till may 10th see what happens...why are you paticularly in a hurry anyway?

...If the prices do change...and the msi lightning 7970 drops below £400 I think i may deal though.
