I think that when people are refering to power, they are refering to the energy produced at the muzzle rather than the velocity....in which case the .500 is more powerful.

Like I said earlier, it does depend on the criteria you compare them on and a range a variables such as cartridge weight, powder temperature etc.....but as a rule the .500 is the more powerful handgun by some margin.
