Hi all,

Ok, so my head is spinning with all the input and not built a rig since 2009, but what do you think of this spec for SWTOR and BF3 mostly (but no doubt others will follow). Want to play on max settings with fantastic performance.

The list below will all sit on a Sabretooth P67 M'Board which is backed up by an 880W power supply....and would also appreciate suggestions on a good non SSD hard drive of 1 Tb at least....

Final request....anyone use the Bigfoot Killer Gaming NIC and would recommend it (or alternatives)?

  • EVGA GeForce GTX 570 HD 2560MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
  • OCZ Vertex 3 120GB 2.5" SATA-3 Solid State Hard Drive (VTX3-25SAT3-120G)
  • Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail
  • Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10)
  • Zalman CNPS11X Extreme (Cooling) - Had to get elsewhere as OC dont have in stock.
  • Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g)

Thanks
Ian

Which version of Windows do you have?

Home Premium won't support the amount of memory you have (due to RAM + GPU being more then 16GB)..

Also, if you're better off buying a OEM CPU as you're buying a separate heatsink (Though I think the i5 Retail and OEM prices are equal on OCUK at the moment so your choice makes sense).

I was also considering to buy the GPU you've selected but I'm more geared towards a ATI 7870 (This was after looking at Benchmarks but I'm sure others will have their opinions). Do you need it to be a NVidia card (For PhysX for example)?

P.S. I'm still learning so I may be wrong about the points I've made.

THANKS A LOT FOR YOU INPUT...WILL BE INTERESTED TO SEE WHAT OTHERS THINK TOO

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

I would not worry about the Big Foot NIC, waist of money.

Stick with retail cpu, this offers 3 years warranty and a you have a spare cooler :)

BF3 tends to play better on Nvidia GPU'S looking at past builds form theses forum.

What is the make and model of you current PSU?

Edit: Is the 1tb drive going to be used for storage?

What is the make and model of you current PSU?Have an older corsair HX 620W Modular and recently bought in advance a G7 880W Oiwer Extreme...might go down the SLI route hence more power

Edit: Is the 1tb drive going to be used for storage?
Hmm, not storage per se but other games where performance not so much of an issue and pontentially media such a movies and music which will be streamed around the house. I would love to go SSD for everything but cost IS an issue.

:o Should i now be looking at the Ivybridge 3570Kwhich seems to be only slightly more £ than the Sandbridge i5 3500K but should run cooler and prob better performance?

Problem with cheap PSU'S they can't sustain a higher power output for any length of time, also the rails may drop in voltage and course stability issues and shut downs and possibly go pop and take several components with it.

Hmm, fair enough....so what would be a good PSU to buy and is the GX Extremet cheap?/

If you have the Win7 ultimate Box there is a 64bit CD also included so you can upgrade from 32bit any time you need to (part of the reason why ultimate is so highly priced)

If your have Retail version then all version come with 64 & 32bit discs :)

Ok....so now I'm paranoid about my PSU I guess I need to return it..wonder if Maplin does a refund...haven't actually used the PSU yet and got it 2 weeks ago

Thanks for the advice.

If its possible then i would def get a refund.

:)
