**GTX 690 @ OcUK!!**

if you think thats expensive will be intresting to see EVGA 690 if they do one price tag wise not even looking on there site for it as the makes me go cold.

If Evga do a Hydro (watercooled) edition like they did with the 590 then I can see it easily reaching £1000 to £1100

This fella appears to have hijacked my forum name!

.

Say what lol, Anyway on topic this might be better than the 4gb 680 cards seeing that it does have one thing that is good to see at least and thats 512 bit GDDR5 stead of 256 bit... With that said Gibbo do you have any more specification on these cards or do we have to wait till 3rd of May?

Ye timko that what makes me go cold insane price's think some of these card comapnys must think we got a few Money trees growing in are back gardens or something like that (Do wish they was real tho)

On saying that i did find this intresting site here talking about it http://www.anandtech.com/show/5795/...gtx-690-dual-gk104-flagship-launching-may-3rd the thing that is intresting is hard they stuck all the memory round the chips not near to the middle for the air to cool better

Card looks mint but £800 :S let's hope the 7990 forces nvidia's hand and the price lowers. Not that i'd buy one as i only game at 1920x1080 :(

i always favour the underdog, i hope the 7990 blows the 690 out of the water ;)

they have the advantage, theirs doesn't come out till june, so they can adjust it for more performance, depending on what the 690 is like, after all it already has more Vram

i've researched the 7990 today and it's stonking powerful, it's like two MSI Lightnings

you have literally no basis to say that so certainly

someone's already explained this. the 7970 takes more power so AMD won't be able to stick two full 7970's on a single board whereas nvidia pretty much could do that with 680's. The 680's are also marginally mre powerful than the 7970 aswell as cooler.

Would be awesome if they made the 7990 out of the rumoured Tahiti Xt 'pros' with the higher clock speeds.

Got any proof to back up your research?

And that is why you don't:

a) believe trash rumors on the internet
b) post them in a forum with all the certainty of a man in the know

Because you just look ridiculous. How can you research something to which there are no solid rumours about?

No, AMD won't be able to stick two full 7970's on a single board with the same power as a 690gtx, to say they can't stick two full 7970's on a single board is patently untrue. What exactly is a 6990 and a 7970 uses LESS power than a 6970 in all real gaming situations, so they limit tdp/furmark power usage and its not a problem unless it was a problem on the 6990, which it wasn't.

What will be interesting is if AMD has done a new stepping at any point, or even gone as far as a new version of the core.

There is nothing actually stopping AMD making the 7970 a gaming only card, stripping out gpgpu, doing essentially a "faster" 7870. Personally I doubt it, a new stepping is very much in the realms of possibility, they've had the best part of 7-8 months since the 7970 was ready for production by all accounts(then 3 months of 28nm not being ready when it should have been).

Either way, AMD doesn't have to make a 300W card, the 6990 wasn't 300W, and used closed to 450W in the OC bios mode and there is no reason the 7990 can't do the same. What will they say when they have a card that uses beyond normal stock clocks and 450W vs Nvidia's 300W, maybe they'll mention that Nvidia has banged on about GPGPU for the past 5 years, and Cuda, and how they've left it out and the 7990 is simply a far more capable beast.

it's all rumours yes, but i've read about the 7990 in quite a few places now, i guess some people here just like to believe the rumours they want...especially the Nvidia fanboys

Maybe i do know, after all i knew about the GTX 690 weeks ago, plus the non existant GTX 685.

All you posted about the 690 that was correct was that it was coming. That's like saying it's Monday tomorrow

You said at the time it would be £600-650 or something like that. It's more.

I cant, because these are on competitor websites etc, plus i saw them hours ago... the 7990 is being re-engineered right now, to be the same or faster than the 690, this will be launched at a computer show in the Far East some time in june...... so the rumours say..... it's code named ``New Zealand``

AMD are waiting to read the benchies for the 690, so they can modify their card to suit... this is a rumour, but it's also pretty obvious that they'll do this anyway.

i would not buy the 690 yet.... best to wait just in case
