Guild Wars 2

It very much is when the problems are so obvious, glaring, and easily fixable.

Honestly, downscale the effects, upscale the camera zoom and FOV.

Then melee classes can at least get a good enough view to assess their problems.

Just saying there might be performance issues linked to the camera right now, stuff like drawing rooms etc. We are having this problem right now at work. I found the camera was uncomfortably close.

On the point of the effects I found it all too much, couldn't see what was going on half the time. Then again I don't consider myself a 'pro gamer' and enjoy just developing my character and bashing keys.

I aren't keen on some of the animations with people jumping around 'anime' style. I wish I could have this game wrapped up in a more western dirty skin.

Nooooooeeeesssss, I love my jumping around!!!!!!

You may at some point of playing GW2 catch a glimpse of one of my characters doing nothing but jumping around in circles for hours on end ......

I have no idea why I do that, I find it soothing, maybe it helps my vertigo or something.

haha I probably worded that wrong as I spent a fair amount of time jumping around. It's more the 'flying' animations with huge silly swords, never been a fan of Final Fantasy-esque art style.

I did like that I could create and play a more rough looking character amongst all the colourful pretty people running about.

2) That applies to every character class

3) You cant melee everything. Dont ever expect to.

4) Here you really need to learn to play and pull mobs one at a time with your ranged weapon before fighting them. I assume that this is only an issue when you wield nothing but melee weapons, and simply charge into every enemy you see without careful pulling.

2. True, but ranged have nowhere near as much of a problem with it. There is really no content in the beta we have see so far that is more difficult for ranged than for melee. In fact for a lot of ranged, the only time you ever have to get hit is when you are fighting another ranged enemy.

3. That means someone rolling with 2 melee weapon sets is relegated to running around resing people in scaled events.

4. This implies that you can actually pull enemies which wont be the case if they are ranged, or already fighting a meat shield of pets and other melees. Even if you approach this tentatively you can still be switched to and dropped real fast.

I enjoyed playing parkour (sp?) in divinities reach, seeing how high I could jump off stuff an landing either on my feet, face, or dying.

Got a refund through from Cj's keys. Just before they refunded me I got this (again)

"So why has Gaile Gray put this response on the forums"

https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/support/account/Item-Shop-US/page/1#post63197

In response to the guy that asked about Cj's - I pre-ordered a collectors edition, bit of a waste of money but I'm a long time game/special edition collector, wanted a cheap key for my eldest son and had used Cj's in the past (around 6-7 times) without problems, and many other similar sites - although never for a pre-purchase/mmo. Never again though, lesson learn't.

Yup weapon switching is a must in this game. I have seen it mentioned in both the PVP and General Discussion areas that if you don't weapon switch your actually gimping yourself by up to 50% of your damage/survivability.

I took that on board and took the time to find weapon combo's i liked and i then started doing so much better. That was on my Necro, Ranger and Thief who i was having a horrible time with but i switched all the time and things became a lot easier in both PVP and PVE.

Look, a solution to melee being universally weak compared to ranged is not to say... EQUIP A RANGED WEAPON. What's the result? Just use ranged all the time. When is it ever preferential to use melee in this scenario? I guess when you want some more challenge, or a bit of artificially-created variation...

And yeah, on the jumping issue, I simply hate the Thief move where you pirouette over the enemy whilst spinning. What an impossible move to use in PvP, where the other players will be moving around! Dumb. Reminds me of some of Age of Conan's more disastrous combat combos, which required your opponent to basically stay still for 3 seconds.

Just replied myself, hopefully they will take notice with multiple people having the same problems.

If all who bought through CJS could post it would be greatly appreciated.

Replied, excellent thread. Ive been told they have gone direct to Gaile..

Now I can stop worrying about being ripped off by Vladimir, here's my mini review on the game :

It's fun.

Looking forward to the next beta.

Edit - just posted on the Gw2 forum about my experience with Cj's, those of you going for refunds like me - good luck!

You equip a ranged weapon to pull. Then when the enemy is in range you switch to melee. Thats how people have done melee successfully in GW1 for 7 years.

Well I dunno how everyone else go on, but I manged to get a Mesmer to lvl 12 and also a Ranger to lvl 12 also.

Whilst it was not enough time to find out for sure, I prefered the Ranger and its play style overall.

I think for any profession you need to take it further than lvl 7 so at least you can try weapon switching.

I found the mesmer just a total spam fest on the buttons mostly, it was fun at first but was just way to much button clicking for my liking. It looked way cool and the effects were great. I only tried PvE so may totally be different in PvP.

As for Ranger, first I was disappointed that the survivibility of my Cat wasn't too good, was forever resing it, however I just loved the Short Bow skills and the Axe too when multiple mobs. Later once I developed the Longbow skills and weapon switching, I really enjoyed the Axe/Torch combo, putting flames in the floor then switching to Longbow for flamming arrows, and and rapid fire volley I never got bored with. The Ranger seems to have a more structured and logical approach to using the skills. Also I found the survivabilty a lot better fighting higher level mobs (even multiples at higher lvl). With a extra skill purchased to regen the pets health and also traps, I am pretty sure Ranger will be my first main. The only down side was that I couldnt work out how to change or get different pets....

That doesn't make melee any more viable now does it.

To expand on this - I dont especially have an agenda for playing a melee character, I played a rifle warrior til mid 20s and only really died against a group of +2 krait rangers.

The simple state of the game is that ranged is both really easy to play in pve and also really effective, in stark contrast to melee which is harder to play, less effective and much more likely to be killed instantly.

I got my Guardian to lvl 24, and managed to finish the 'beta' personal story.

I'm not going to mention problems that have already been mentioned, but the main issues I had as a melee, was basically down to respawn rates. There were a couple of areas, where I'd just killed an NPC, moved 10 feet, only to find a replacement had already spawned in it's place.

Another thing I had noticed, if a NPC was chasing someone it would often change targets and come for me, when the person it was chasing was merely running past me. That way leads to griefing.

Overall, I did enjoy myself, just wants a few tweeks here and there.. toning down the incoming damage slightly, changing the respawns, and thinning out a couple of the mobs.

Can't wait for the next event.

Yes, so maybe they need to buff shield defence and and CC skills on melee weapon sets.

Yep, would help.

I think the thief really needs an active evade mechanic or some kind of ability that lets them be less of a priority to mobs. I was thinking something like a 5 second lingering effect on dodge roll, wouldnt fit into the buffs and debuffs system though unfortunately.

Yeah the respawns in some areas made it pretty impossible to solo or play in a smaller group.

Also i think the level arc needs changing slightly to decrease levelling time a little bit as the flow of events and personal story quest was a little bit disjointed. Although I do like the fact it forced you to go and explore other starting areas as well.

What I dont want to see:

Player damage numbers increased (as long as they are balanced between each class), enemy damage numbers decreased.

This is another relevant thread:

http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/34527-enemies-do-too-much-damage/

A lot of people who did play melee over the weekend actually do like how it is. They dont want it becoming stupidly easy.

Actually, I would like shatterstone to have a higher damage and longer cool down though, and knockdown added back to water trident. Sceptre / focus water is so stupidly weak compared to dagger / dagger or staff water builds.

I agree with this, it probably isnt helping that a lot of people are doing over leveled content. After you get past 2 levels above you it really becomes no joke, especially ranged mobs.
