Do Tiffany's diamonds sparkle more/better, or am I susceptible to suggestive marketing

I've even tried to blind-test myself, and I always come to the conclusion that Tiffany's diamonds sparkle more and with greater intensity than others.

Is this because:
  1. I am a sucker
  2. The 'Tiffany' cut
  3. The diamond itself (doubt it)
  4. The typical Tiffany setting (ie claw type thing)
  5. A combination of the above

Would appreciate advice from experienced ring buyers ;)

They buy better quality ie higher grade colour and cut diamonds.

If you buy a good quality diamond it will look just as good as a Tiffany one and you will get better value as well

A guy buying his Mrs-to-be an engagement ring is pretty much the opposite of gay :|

He says he's tried blind-testing himself, so he seems to already have a Tiffany's diamond and a non-Tiffany's diamond.

Maybe he's wondering if the husband's standards are slipping... :p

It's just branding. Yes, they're great quality, but you can go and source similar quality diamonds, have it set in a ring and save a fortune. However, "oh it's not Tiffany's" is what most greedy women will be thinking.

who mentioned a Mrs? :p

If the over-stated of 1:10 people are gay is accurate (admittidly doubtful) then there is a 90% chance that this is for a heterosexual relationship.

If it sounds like a horse and looks like a horse, best not to cry "Zebra!"
