Feeling HOT HOT HOT

Theoretically do you reckon I could be clocking my 3770k to 4.6-4.8Ghz with HT still on? or would that be causing a hell of a lot more heat?

Dont see why not if you have a good cooler, remember every day tasks wont heat the chip up like running Prime does for hours.

True. Ive ordered the Alphenfohn K2 after considering that if I can find some pretty decent side fans that are 20mm in depth or less I can have the two extra side panel fans mounted up. I know the difference between the Alphenfohn and Phanteks is about 2-3 degrees. Hoping Ill be getting pretty damn good temps with the K2.

same settings in 5 minutes ? thats not possible if 2 hrs before

Doubt it as well, he says it's SD so I don't think the one that took 2 hours was SD must have been something a bit bigger.

MonsterMoshi if you compare the speeds then at least convert the same video with the same settings.

The Q6600 is packed up ready to go in my brothers PC.
All i can give you is my word. If you don't believe it then its cool by me. Not sure why i would make this up but hey ho...
Previously i had to leave each film a matter of hours to complete each and i always remember that being around the length of the film as it averaged at around 30-40fps
My old system was a bit cruddy with a decent CPU stuck in it. Low speed 4gb ram on a poor board and Q6600 at stock speeds. It took its time.

I never adjusted the settings from the 'Normal' option it gives you as this is is the one which works best on my platforms. I've converted 6 films in the time from 21:09 to 21:51. Either way, this is a very impressive speed.

I believe you, in the same way that my CPU can convert a film in 5 minutes, except that the film might only be 20 minutes long. I may be converting an SD film comparing it to a HD film I converted on my other CPU.

All I'm saying is your comparison in speed between the CPU's is flawed.

You said 'SD though I have to add' and it makes me think the other film you converted on the Q6600 was HD or some other size.

If this was comparing the same film converted maybe I'd believe it.

I'll try a test of my own when I get a chance and then maybe if I see the same sort of results I'll believe those performance increases :)

I'm no idiot. If i thought there was a chance that may be the case then i would have mentioned it. However all my films were all feature length DVD rips using the same program on the same settings obviously all varying in length and slightly in quality. But if they were running at roughly 30-40fps before as i mentioned and are now up between 300-400 fps as you can see here then i will leave it at that.
From a 5 year old 2.4GHz quad to a brand new 3.5GHz quad with hyper threading with much better motherboard and RAM, i fail to see why your so skeptical.

My fears answered ..... **** !

No worries .... if I can get the 3770k @ 4.6 with reasonable temps I'll be content with that

What were your fears? :p if it was IBT turns your CPU into a kettle then Im afraid so xD Stulid has done some pretty extensive testing on his 3570k using prime and his temps are pretty nice at 4.5Ghz with his Kuhler heatsink.

I think it better not to use Intel Burn Test version 2.53 for all IvyBridge unless a proper high end custom water cooling as it easy to get 100C mark on air cooler. It sound crazy but can you test IBT on 4.2GHz without increase the vcore, everything on stock and was it stable ?

Seems my 3570K is getting quirky at 4.7.
Prime IBT etc all say stable but the physics tests on 3d mark11 bomb back to the desktop.
If i reduce the memory speed down to 1600 they do complete but i think 4.7
is on the edge.
edit: A touch more vcore sorted the issue with 3d mark out.

4.6Ghz is running sweet, much cooler with lower volts.
1.295v set in bios, 1.288 - 1.304v under load with LLC on.
memory at 2133, havent pushed for a big memory clock yet and probably will leave it at 2133.
using the Samsung 30nm sticks

edit: Gave my my old GEIL platinums a try and they finally run at there rated speed.
I bought them quite some time ago when OCUK had them as a special and they have never run at there rated speed 2133 9,9,9,28 in any platform i have tried.
They do using the IVY so thats pleasing.

Exactly the same settings

Why do you say thats not possible?

Because you're getting 10x the frame rate, but the time decrease is 24x
