I think Samsung would have learnt from last year's Galaxy Tab 10.1 fiasco where they kept customers waiting for months and months for the device... it would be a PR fail if they didn't release the phone within a few weeks of announcement.

Probably, which means they are learning... and therefore increases the chances of a May release. They have built up all this hype, and it would be pointless if they then said "Oh, it is coming out in August".

I upgraded from a 5800 to a SGS and it was a massive step up at the time.
