***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

They probably decided on blue and white so that many people would go with white, which would stand out from all the other black phones. Yes, it may be kind of like apple, but it would get the heads turning I think.

DECEMBER for the release of the US/ LTE version?! Terrible!

Imaging sensors don't get tweaked, they get replaced, with new sensors (generally).

It'll be the same one found in the One S/X, all the real improvements will come from the faster ISP/encoder and greater bandwidth (and lens)
The next advance in mobile sensor technology is the 'stacked' design and rgbw. Expect a major fanfare with those :p (hayabusa maybe)

An about turn for me.

I am getting one, a few factors which have swayed me.

Styling, the more I see it from different angles they more I'm liking it.
It is without question the joint most powerful well specced android mobile currently.
As an sgs2 owner it's an upgrade in all the key areas
It has a number of specific features I demand in a mobile such as removable battery and storage.
The wolfson dac, something I can appreciate having owned an sgs1 and something we all bemoaned about on the s2.
It's not going to cost me a bean to switch, I would be churlish to refuse a phone of this calibre for free.

Yes I whined and moaned initially, that was my own fault. I got sucked in and swept away on the magic carpet of hype.

I'll be sorting out a deal and pre ordering this weekend, am genuinely excited now I'm approaching it logically and with a clear head as opposed to a spin laden heart.

Bring on the 29th

Not sure on what to get now.... I think the X looks nicer in the picture but that is a lot to do with what appears to be a thicker bezel on the S3. TBH though it is not really a thicker bezel. The X just has the illusion of having a screen right up to the edge where in fact the bezel is the same size on both phones except the X's is black giving the appearance of a thin bezel....

I will have to physically see them TBH.

I do like the curved nature of this over the One X. That is one aspect which I missed when I made the move from HTC Desire to the Samsung SII.

I also like the charger being at the bottom than on the side... make it far easier when placing in docks or when I'm charging it in my car cradle.

Expandable storage is also a plus. I'm not saying that I will need it, but it is there in case I do.

As far as the SIM/Micro SIM is concerned, I just have to pop into an O2 store to get my normal one changed to a Micro SIM.

Very strange - BBC quoted Samsung as saying that this would be the phone to rival the iPhone... it's been a long while since the iPhone was anything to lust after...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17947629

How so? I am still waiting for an Android phone to entice me back, yet to find one.

I lost my SII in November. I couldn't replace it with another as there was no stock and couldn't wait (business phone). I got the iPhone 4S 64GB instead. Honestly, both platforms compare favourably. I don't want this to be a circlejerk of iPhone vs Android, but comments like this are unjust.

I do not know what the wolfson dac is exactly, aside from something to do with sound processing...?

BUT.... I just read that it is in the iPods however. I actually prefer the sound coming out of my $25 LG Ally more than the sound coming out of my $300 iTouch 3rd Gen.

Will this wolfson dac be better than the one in the iTouch?

and what the heck audio processing unit thing was in my LG Ally that made it sound so darn beautiful in comparison?

Any help/info is greatly appreciated! :p

A DAC is a Digital To Analogue Converter. Wolfson is a company that designs DACs that's based in Edinburgh. IIRC Wolfson made the chip for 1st gen iPods but Apple dropped them and went for some other make.

As to which is better? Sound is generally subjective and what sounds good to one person may not sound so good to another. For instance I don't believe for one minute the LG sounds beautiful but that is because I'm into hifi.

How can people like the styling. They've taken the body from a £10 nokia and made it twice as wide. It's one fugly phone. Also to big, as much as I would love a massive screen, it's still a phone and has to fit unobtrusively in a pocket. We needs folding screens.

Big? Nexus and X fit in my jacket top and jeans front pocket just fine so I fail to see the issue as the S3 is thinner ans flatter.
