***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

I think people's disappointment just goes to show how good the SGSII was and still is. I personally like it, I'd prefer a non-pentile screen but then again am I really going to notice? I'm not so sure.

I've never found it an issue on the Nexus. The screen is fine but at the time of release there was quite a bit of talk about the colours (I think it was the colours) being better on the S2 due to RGB stripe. They also seem to have dropped the screen quality slightly below the Nexus, as well as the PPI, which isn't really great.

This shows the differences at a sub pixel level:

The effects are made less profound by the higher resolution though.

Isn't the voice software in the SGSIII similar to the one bundled with the SGSII? I'm very disappointed that they seem to have nicked the whole Siri screen layout, even right down to the pattern on the background of the screen, it's just like why  they are better than that.

Yeah, I doubt it offers much more than Vlingo on the S2, it's just now got a more Siri like style to it and has some new features.

I like a lot of the TouchWiz features, like the video pop out thing and eye tracking is interesting, but much of that will probably go when everyone sticks CM9 on there.

Totally unofficial but:

Sounds like a BOSS, runs a wolfson 1811. God damn I hate beats and everything it stands for, the quality of the audio here is excellent and if you use it as a PMP you're in business here. Much better than the SGS2.
Screen's OK. I'm 50:50 over it vs the oneX. Probably manu problems with new tech, it's not like they would have made this decision easily.
TWiz still is a bit of ballache but its better than before. I might give it a go for a bit.
Battery got legs for standard use patterns but like the oneX, screen murders it pretty hard.
GPU is insane, no game even comes close to using it to full potential.

Turbo edit: eye thing is er... Yeah you'll probably disable it.

Nice about the Wolfson, that's quite a big plus! You mean the eye tracking thing? What's wrong with it?

Would you say the screen looks the same as the Nexus?

That post makes absolutely no logical sense whatsoever.

It's not really "bad" because if you look at the Galaxy Nexus it's pretty clear it's not bad or as bad as some people are making out. Yes we all expected an RGB screen but going by tech radar's text quality thoughts and other reviewers thoughts as well last night, the PPI is just fine and text is very smooth.

Basically first gen pentile AMOLED had text that didn't look very smooth especially when zoomed out. The Galaxy S2 is fine zoomed in but zoom out and small fonts look weird as detail is lost. The S2 has a much lower PPI count though. The GNex is just fine and the S3 doesn't seem to be any different here, maybe an improvement even if the reports last night are anything to go by.

The Gnex isn't fine when zoomed out, the text is still rubbish.

The biggest problem i have had since leaving my IP4 behind!

I'll probably get this, despite the bashing people on here are giving it :p

Not sure about the blue one though. I'll have to see it first hand before I make any more judgement.

I have the honour of not being in the "HERP DERP NOTHANKS ILL STICK WID MA SGS2/ONEX/ONES/NEXUS rabble rabble rabble" camp because I'm still on my HTC Desire, so any upgrade will be much welcome :D

Yeah it's not going to be as crisp as Retina, nobody is opposing that view :p But as far as AMOLED goes it's just fine. I saw no problems on the Gnex reading text on blogs and things. Websites that stray away from standard font sizes and styles though are more a webdev issue than anything else :p

But isn't the one x as good as the IP$/S? i havent seen one personally but reading reviews they say its the best screen ever?

Yeah the One X screen is pretty amazing and the "floating" image is visually pleasing but I'll always be an AMOLED fan because of the contrast and blacks being precisely black as opposed to almost black and slightly grey as with all LCDs.

Yes, the One X screen is an inflated version of the iPhone 4 screen.

It's the best screen I've ever seen but I wouldn't exactly be upset if I had to stick with the Nexus screen either.

This, SAMOLED+ has spoiled things for me a bit, I just hate consuming media on any other screen type now :(

Bring on the (affordable) 27" OLED monitors and 55" OLED tvs!

The logo is high up so the brand can be seen when you're holding it to your ear.

Purely a brand establishment and marketing move.

Yeah, I'm sure most people haven't heard of Samsung. :p

It makes it look proportionally wrong though.

I wouldn't call it rubbish, not as sharp when the text is tiny. But you don't want to read it when its that small anyway. I not had any complaints with the Nexus after swapping over from a iPhone4.

Everyone bangs on about the One X, I used one a few times and its good no doubt but wasn't wowed... more meh
