***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

What are the options of returning a contract phone (and the contract after purchase)?

I'm away from 7-28th May in Malaysia (why isn't it coming out in Asia first?!?) and I'm tempted to get the CPW preorder for the free tablet (to sell). However it's due to be delivered on 30th May which doesn't give me much time to decide if it's for me. Plus what if I generally don't like the phone when it arrives? Can I just return it within 14 days under the DSR?

It also seems unlikely that Android apps could use this feature going forward, such as with the iPlayer etc, like with AirPlay as the tech is Samsung owned and not Android specific.

They will support air cast features. Samsung confirmed they will release the development tools for app developers to implement the features into their apps. It's just a matter of devs not being lazy and updating their apps :p

Also in one of the videos showing Polaris office using it the presenter showed the presentation on the TV while the presenter was editing on the phone screen so the function to do other stuff on the phone screen while casting is there, I imagine it's all part of the development toolset so devs can choose what they want in their apps.

I think it's usually 7 days for contracts and you probably shouldn't activate the SIM either.

If you haven't ordered by now, the tablets will all be gone anyway.

Aslong as the screen is bright - i.e.minimum 350cd/m2 then the screen will be awesome. The Pentile screen of the Galaxy Note @ 285ppi is awesome as is - this should be better.

The toss up between the screen on the One X and S3 will be down to personal preference - and on here it's who can shout louder. Everyone I have shown the S2 screen to prefers the colours of SAMOLED over any LCD - and they think the S2 is really sharp. The general public will not notice Pentile - and it will sell just like the S2 did.

People saying the screen is a step down from the Nexus - troll.

All this omg the backs uglier than Quasimod, my s2 has spent its entire life in a casrmate, as will my s3 I will see the back once in a blue moon when I give it a clean. Yes its minging but really hardly any of us will see it lol.

I have an S2 on a 12 month contract, 6 months in. The remaining 6 months total £180 and I can trade in the handset for £210-230 meaning I could leave my contract now cost free. This would allow me to take out a new 24 month contract for either the one x or S3.

Does this make any logical sense? Would I be better off doing this or waiting for my contract to be up in 6 months.

I'm still struggling to see how the One X is massively better looking than the SGS3 tbh, neither are particularly pretty imo?

The Fronts are both kinda non-descript, the HTC does make the bezel appear smaller by making half-black and half-white with glass over some but not all of it but that's about it.

The back of the SGS3 isn't exactly a beautiful thing, but then you're comparing it to the nipple camera nastiness of the One X? Even the SGS2 which had the chin and a camera protrusion looks better than both imo, something like the iPhone 4 is way better...

And then there's the feel, lots of judgement from pictures but several sites now saying it feels better in the hand than the One X?

Another thought:

Won't the camera being flush to the back muffle the speaker a bit?

The camera isn't flush, it's much less pronounced but there is a ridge there, so it should actually be better than the SGS2 where the chin did rest on the surface and could block the speaker slightly...

So sarge is a troll then? People are just discussing it, there's no need to be getting offended and calling people trolls.

The screen seems to be more or less the same as the one on the Nexus - from people who have seen it and had them side by side.

The X isn't massively better at all. It's preference really, I think people were just hoping the S3 would more or less make the decision for them and it hasn't.

Design wise, no Android phone for me has come close to the quality of the iPhone 4 design. I'm looking forward to seeing what Apple can do with the new iPhone. They are the masters of design.

I really like the X design and aside from the camera area, I still do think it's excellent. Why they chose the 'nipple' thing is very strange as the rest of the device is perfect.

Yes - you haven't seen it yet - 2 lcd's of the same res arn't the same - why should this be.

Compare the screen of the xperia s to the one X - are they the same?

Because the people who have the phones side by side are saying they look the same? They could be wrong I suppose. I'll have to see it.

Why should it be better though, have I missed something?

I haven't compared them side by side.

I am going to post what the case should have been/looked like in about 30 or so minutes!

Stayed tuned! :p

I wonder what expert reviewers think of the S compared to the GS 3 for build quality, looks and feel in the hand.....................

Ah ok. That is reassuring then. I do still fear that, because this is a Samsung specific thing, app developers will be less inclined to provide this as a high priority feature. Time will tell though. I just wish Google had devised an AirPlay style solution that worked across all Android phones. To achieve that, they could have released a comparable hub. The fact this is a Samsung specific move really seems to imply that we could see Samsung move further and further away from Android, which is a prediction I've read on various tech sites.

AirPlay is an Apple tech that I find myself using so often. The fact Android has never really had a viable alternative to this has been the main reason I haven't moved away from the iPhone since 2010. So I'm happy to see this development.

I have two HTC Desire's to replace over the next couple of months for my Wife and Daughter. My wife will definately go One X, she loves Sense and doesn't want to change. My daughter on the other hand, may well go for the S3. The SD card and removable battery are compelling points for a phone that needs to last at least 2 years. I'm sure performance will be fine for both phones for their useful lifespans - our Desire's still work!

As for the S3's looks, I actually prefer the white one, and would probably like black even more. Not at all convinced by the brushed plastic blue, a very odd choice for a launch colour. I guess the thing with designing a good looking smart phone with a flippin' massive screen is that you have very little room for maneouvre in terms of creating an eye-catching design. Colour is however one of the easier options!

I'm excited because I'm getting a Desire as a hand-me-down! Sad eh? I have a company Nokia e71 and if I can get a working Exchange app the e71 is going in my office drawer!

could you quote links of these side by side comparisons - I haven't seen any.

It's a new panel AFAIK - so should be judged on its own merit.

Nice about the Wolfson, that's quite a big plus! You mean the eye tracking thing? What's wrong with it?

Would you say the screen looks the same as the Nexus?
Eye tracking is er... well... it sorta is OK in the same way that face unlock is OK but not great to me if that makes sense. On the whole "gimmick to useful feature" scale it's more gimmick for sure.

Also the shortcut for camera from unlock screen is absolutely **** compared to just pressing a shortcut on the lockscreen for camera, I don't even know what they were thinking with that one.

I take it you are on Talkmobile then? I am in exactly the same position as you are. This is my first contract ever (hence the 12 months, would hate to be on 24 months) but I don't see the point of upgrading early. I think it is a good time to show a bit of geek discipline and to just stick with the SGS2, which remains a great phone. I might even just keep it after my contract is up in August/September and put a cheap Giffgaff sim in it, unless another great phone is out by then that could tempt me.

Tablets are all gone I'm afraid.
