***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

I'm a bit disappointed, meh, I've abandoned all plans to sell my Note and buy one but I think the S3 is definitely the phone I would buy if I needed a phone now, as is I have high hopes of the Note 2.

Re the screen its specs are better than the Note and that's brilliant so I look forward to actually seeing it in hand, I get the feeling that Samsung have held stuff back for next years battle with the i5, this time they set out to beat the one X and imho they achieved this aim.

Having read a few hands on reviews, looked at vids and the benchmarks as they come in my initial disappointment has subsided somewhat and I believe the S3 will be a slow take off success as ultra happy user reports and smugness start to come in.

It would be interesting to see how Sony execs react to the S3 release because afaik until i5 comes along the "Hayabusa" is the only likely competitor for the foreseeable future.

Re looks I would have preferred an S2/Note clone with souped up innards and UI, I prefer the one X front and the S3 rear, neither really matter to me as it would defo have a back and flap cover.

Overall not what I'd hoped for but still probably the "best" phone around, though I'm still a happy Note owner for awhile.

Not a shame really though because come July you'll most likely get a lot better of a deal than people who get a contract between the end of May and the end of June!

I imagine CodeworkX's comments on all the features being mainly software based means they can implement it into CM9 (and beyond) so good times may lie ahead for all Android users, not just S3 owners :)

I fully understand but if people aren't adding discussion to the good points then what should they be doing? Not much fun idling around twiddling thumbs on what could have been! Yeah I realise it could have been a lot more but to me it seems like two things:

1: Samsung have another card to play later this year, either the next Nexus phone is beyond the S3 or the next Galaxy after the Nexus is something else entirely.

2: The S2 was way ahead of its time, which is true because even now it stacks up quite well against the high end offerings you can buy (screen resolution aside!).
 
Is it weird that the only thing turning me off the S3 at the moment is the eye tracking thing? I just find it strange, not necessary at all - will i be able to turn it off?

Otherwise i'm going for the One X

1. I dont think Samsung get that to be on a par with apple/iphone (and would be Nokia were they not on a ridiculous Windows Phone trip) they need to focus on premium design. The SIII sadly doesnt give me confidence, maybe they will get it with the next Nexus, who knows. I personally hope the next Sony will be up the mustard as that is my only hope now!

2. I certainly agree from an internal hardware perspective - in terms of an android phone it was up there and still holds up well today.
 
I bloody well hope you can, the idea of your phone looking at you all the time is just silly. Tapping the screen isn't that tedious and if you want to read/watch something, taking 2seconds to set it not to go off for 15mins, 30mins, an hour etc is much more convenient in my opinion.

It's not just the design, it's the marketing too.

HTC are rubbish at it as well, have you seen the One X advert? Garbage.

I love how Samsung used sheep in the build up videos, then ripped off Siri... :D
 
Does anyone know what the things on the front top right are? Camera, light sensor and something else?

The s2 alsp has an additional sensor like that. Proximity sensor!

Even on the s2 you can turn off all the Samsung features, so I doubt it will be any different on the s3.

I actually thought the X ad was rather good! :o :p

The music maybe helped though :p As I love the soundtrack to the film drive :D

Think about it though.

Apple advertise by pushing/highlighting phone features in daily situations that they want people to use and be impressed by. Siri in the car, taking pictures of your kids, etc. People see these things and think, wow, that's cool, I could use that.

Who on earth is going to do (or even relate to) a professional photo shoot, skydiving out of a plane, using a mobile phone camera? :confused:

Nobody, that's who. :p

Totally - That unveiling was unbelievably too stiff/complicated - copy apple not Nokia's keynotes!

Mind you I quite like the 'Samsunged' ads - quite effective - however 1 set of ads does not reposition an entire brand!

Would be interesting to see them both side by side in person, I'm really happy with the colour reproduction on the S2 and I don't think I'd be happy with a lesser colour accuracy or image quality. I guess it is just one of those things where technically it is inferior in some areas however you are unlikely to notice them on a day to day basis. Almost like how comparing CPU benchmarks is becoming academic these days.

Determined to keep my S2 until next year though so I will be keeping my wallet in my pocket :p. Like others have mentioned, if I was in the market for a new phone today I'd be toying between the S3 and HTC One X, maybe even the HTC One S as well.

But yeh its a bit of a silly ad in all honesty...dont think many people will be skydiving and taking pics with a One X:p:D
 
In my opinion they messed up on the ‘blue’ one, but I have to say the white one is growing on me. It would have been better Black/White as I don’t really traditionally do white handsets, but the screen looks good from what images show online now.

Getting the note today (if the locals stop taking shots at the DDP van) so cannot really wait for the S3, might get it in the future. That said I think those who are getting it will be getting a cracking device.

Was not that fussed yesterday, but the design is growing on me.
