I've avoided playing D2 because I don't want it to ruin my D3 experience i.e. the mechanics are similar, I don't want to be too familiar and thus easily bored of D3.

I tried Torchlight instead, it felt a bit average (I really don't like the art style), makes me want D3 even more.

I don't think you'll have that problem. In fact, gameplay wise, Torchlight has a lot of features that will be in D3, that D2 was missing. :p

agree, after playing the D3 beta, i picked up torchlight, however although its a fun game its not a patch on diablo. Made me realise just how polished D3 felt when I played it.

10 more days.......

Comparative stats for the Skeleton King are circulating:

Nightmare: Lv.33, 123,250HP
Hell: Lv.52, 2,471,100HP
Inferno: Lv.61, 15,717,300HP

Looks like the official D3 game guide has a sample page on the iStore, be wary of spoilers.

Edit - Normal Monsters :S

Armaddon (appears in act IV)
Normal: lv.29, 1200-1700hp damage per hit: 443
Nightmare: lv.49, 12k-17k hp damage per hit: 3445
Hell: lv.60, 54k-76k HP damage per hit: 14k
Inferno: lv.63, 306-428k HP damage per hit: 170k (!)

Grain of salt as always.

I enjoyed Torchlight for a while, but actually preferred Titan Quest.

The new Torchlight does not look like it will be that different to the old one, I for one will not play it for a while preferring to stick with D3.

I tried playing through D2 and stopped just before finishing ACT 1, i could see my self getting burnt out before D3 is released, the videos above helped tons! I think i know enough of the story now to understand whats going on. Roll on Diablo III!

I installed Titan Quest again but haven't actually started playing it again yet...

Came across a SP mod + plugy for diablo 2 and tried it out. Having some fun with sorceress now I can freely swap my skills around. Ice Blast is pretty potent, albeit expensive. Kinda gets across the whole '30 skills per class, 5 you use' thing. Until now I had never even used Lightning/Chain Lightning.

Here are 4 monsters from the game guide, pics are credit to gaf, I have removed the location that they are encountered for spoilers.

Shows the health and damage they do across all difficulties, inferno is.. uh..

Very interesting, doing quick calculation on how next level relates to previous:

Moving from:

normal ---->> nightmare = 68x more hp
nightmare ----->> hell = 20x more hp
hell ----->> inferno 6x more hp

Now comparing average weapon damage increase.
I will take average damage (min + max / 2) for 2 handed sword for levels that you would normally fight skele king ( or about that at least from my personal guess or whatever closest level weapon I will find to what I think it will be ).

Normal = Level 9 sword (1.1atk speed) - 12-17dmgdps = 14.5dmg average
Nightmare = Level 32 sword (1.1atk speed) - 52.8–54.5dps = 53.5dmg average
Hell = Level 51 sword ( 1.1 atk speed) - 171.6–179.9dps = 176dmg average
Inferno = Level 60 sword ( 1.1 atk speed) - 367.4–379.0 = 373dmg average

Now moves ( rounded up to closest 0.5x)

Normal ---->> Nightmare = 4x more damage
Nightmare ---->> Hell = 3x more damage
Hell ---->> Inferno = 2x more damage

Looks like move from normal to nightmare will be massive and then it will be more linear and slow increases.

You can already guess that beating the first pack of zombies on nightmare will take you around 15x longer than on normal comparing weapon damage increase to hp increase.

lol WTF at the damage increase from hell to inferno, x5-10 ... -_-
I guess anything will just 1 hit you on inferno... im glad I'll be playing wizzard !
Goodluck to monks/barbs :D

I think I want to get involved, but I've looked at various pages online and still can't get my head round exactly what it is?!

It's clearly an RPG, but it appears you can play and complete it in single player like a normal RPG, but can also play coop, plus there are auction houses etc meaning that it must have a MMO element?!

From the gameplay videos I've seen it seems that rather than a big free roam world it's more of a series of linear (although with randomly generated content each time) instances. Right?

Can someone clarify a bit please?

Don't let an auction house fool you, it's simply there to buy/sell items.
Otherwise you can play it solo or with friends coop, you're right about the instances/levels although most of the loading from what we've seen is done at the start and it's instant from there on.
