Me too getting rather excited about it now. Still can't decide on main class for first play through, do the melee based ones tend to be 'easier' due to more hp and not relying on kiting skills etc?

Why would you think I'm not being?

I don't want to follow some guide written for people too lazy to discover how to beat the game of their own accord. I want to enjoy the game beginning to end without anything ruining that experience. Why should I have to dodge spoilers posted in plain view in the discussion thread?

Clearly, it's not just me. A number of people have said they don't want to read spoilers, and people think we're trolling or joking? Is it really too much to ask for people to think before they post, and make sure they don't spoil things for people?

Hp counts, and resistances are not spoilers, and if you have ever played a dungeon crawler before - especially Diablo you will know this stuff already.

harder difficulties = higher hp and higher/more resistances

I just find it hard to believe that you think knowing the HP of a boss is going to kill the "fun" of this game...

I don't want to know it regardless of how trivial, I don't need or want some guide book holding my hand. You may think it's not spoilers but I, and several other people in this thread do and have expressed a desire not to have the game spoilt for them. I don't care how D2 hardcore you were and if you can predict the resistances of an upcoming boss through telepathy.

If you want to discuss it, go and make a spoiler thread or use the tags. Is it really that hard for you to take other people into consideration? It would take 3 seconds to do.

Hi,

I bought D3 through Blizzard, should I download the game client from there? Is there anywhere better to get it from as the bliz downloader kills my internet connection!

It's better to get it from anywhere but blizz as you save £15.

Think I'm going to be wizard as first class. They were the best class to farm meph in d2 so I'm thinking similar for d3.

You've bought it from the most expensive place :(. You can't download the client yet, and you'll have to use the blizzard downloader unless you're getting a physical copy.

On Virgin with a superhub?

Temporarily disable UPnP in your router settings while you download, then turn it back on when you're done.

It's a known fault with the superhub supposedly. It needs a firmware update. :o

I know you can spec strength on your Witch Doctor to boost armour but I was wondering what sort of levels of damage resistance you can expect for a basic caster class character with decent gear compared with a barbarian who not only gets extra strength as he levels but also uses some gear to buff it. If we're talking the difference between say, 35% DR and 50% DR, then the melee character is going to get his ass handed to him. If we're talking 45% and 75% DR then the melee class will have considerably more survivability.

Its 1 of the reasons D2s defence system sucked so much. It didn't matter how much defence your character had your chance of getting hit in Hell was always too high

I think they've done really good job at balancing this to be honest.
If you browse through skills you can check the following regarding surv.

Barb - multiple skills increasing armor by anything from 20% to 300% for a period of time, decreasing damage taken and increasing dodge. Also you have massive mobility with Leap, sprint and charge as well as having probably the biggest amount of stuns and knockbacks in the game.

WD - massive control, curses and pets and lots of DOTs/spread spells which can be casted and forget.

Monk - MASSIVE amount of dodge, extreme mobility in combat, invincibility for few seconds, heals, blinds, knockbacks.

Wiz - good amount of cc, decent escape, shields and armor/resistance increase spells.

DH - Totally overpowered level of mobility which has to be nerfed before release or in next patches. Sick amount of CC and evasive skills.

Ofcourse barb will be the toughest as in "takes most hits to kill" but all the classes can have a good spec if they want to.
What is very interesting tho is that even though all classes can have very good surv, they can have extreme offensive as well.

Tho I'm a bit worried about wizard which I want to play, some if not most of his skills just seem completely pointless and weak but again I'm not gonna be saying anything before we play the game and see for ourselves :-).

Not bothered about the price really, more the convinience. There is a link on the bliz website for the client but I just don't get on with the downloader

You can download it and have been able to for some time. You just can't install it yet.

The damage the enemies deal intrigues me, hence asking if anyone knew much about the damage resistance you can expect if Blizzard have shown it anywhere. But I'm not going to actually quote the damage.

The most probable scenario will be that in Act 3-4 of inferno (perhaps 2 as well), you'll need to work with other classes if only to get damage debuffs and armour/dodge buffs they bring. I really can't see any class surviving the damage listed in that guide on the basis of armour alone.

It's not a spoiler if you already have an idea of how the game works...???

I, and nor can anyone telepathically judge what a mob has, that's the whole point lol, who is going to be sad enough to go:

"Right! skelly king, he has 1425345345345 hp right? ok that's spoiled the game for me omfg i'm gunna slit my wrists and cancel my pre-order"

Seriously... When you play the game do you count how much hp they have? or do you play the game...i know what i do, and i could care less for the "guide" it's a bunch of bull.

But crying over hp/resistances is no where near a spoiler, or going to break the game for you.

each to there own i guess, just seems childish to call HP counts as spoilers, you will kill that boss many times over (with ease) so it makes 0 difference knowing any of what you may or may not have read.

In D2.. my sorcerer just destroyed everything. I'm assuming the fast cast and mana regen will appear in set based armour. Just think what damage a fast cast cold+lightning does with a bottomless supply of mana... if they're resistant to everything but fire.. my old boots with the fastest movement rate used to allow me to run around with a large fire trail and the mob stupidly chasing through the fire.

My assassin was just as bad. Not much hit taking ability (read none) but things just died.

Looking forward to it but not the RSI!

Not always, as in order to fight you'll need to get in close, and so can get mobbed more easily..
