***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Multicolour notification LEDs are a requirement of my idiotically specific phone criteria too, so it doesn't surprise me that much. Not having red for text, green for email, blue for fb and purple for bbm/other instant text service would drive me absolutely nuts. Had it on my Milestone and now my BB and couldn't live without it.

Heh, this is very much what I do with my Milestone. Although a indicator isn't mission critical, it's really amazing to have. The Cyanogen mod I've got has the ability to sequence and merge colours which is also pretty useful. Blue is text. Green is gmail. White is hot mail. Red is missed call/battery low. With a glance, I can tell what I've got. Even my gf recognises the colours now.

Mobiles.co.uk doing it free on £51/month on voda for 12 months + cashback = under £600 all in. £582 to be exact

Voda's 12 month contracts offer excellent overall value for someone wanting to keep up with the latest phones.

If you look at it outright, £500 sim free, you're paying £82 for 12 months service, which has 1200mins, unlim text, 750meg internet. That's how I justify my BB9900 12 month contract :D

Great deal - thanks a lot

Utterly critical feature to me, but as a few here know my phone requirements are specific down to a T :p

The more rigid and specific your buying criteria are the more likely you are to be happy with the eventual purchase, provided your criteria was intelligently and thoroughly worked out.

As it says in the good book "consumer know thyself".

For a £5 add on the data goes to 1.25gb only £60, £45 if you don't buy it for the first 3 months on test drive, extra a year, plus if you get "test drive" for the first 3 months you can stack up your downloading at the front of the contract, 12 months is worth its weight in gold if you don't wana be stuck with an old phone in 18 months, so an interesting deal, hm.

Lol at that, seems pretty bias towards GS 3

Also was going to stop reading at this point;

HOX for XDA-nerds

But I wanted to see what else he was going to blabber on about.

I also love how he can judge battery life considering the phone was only released a couple of nights ago with no reviews what so ever going into battery detail and it is all very well thinking oh bigger battery must mean it will last longer, we all know that is not the case e.g. atrix and with some features like the eye tracking and wifi bonding turned on that could really cut the battery down by a decent bit not to mention when web browsing....

Same for the camera side. I thought the camera on the one x/s won the best for camera on 2 sites, hemordroids.net and the verge or slashgear IIRC? And he also said that the novelties are the same pretty much.......from the pics and videos I have seen of the GS 3 camera so far, the one series has a fair bit more features than the GS 3.

Granted the battery life and camera will most likely be better than the one X, but we won't know for a fact if that is the case and if so, just how much better will it be?

Also we can't really base battery life on expert reviews such as gsmarena etc. as we have seen with the X and S comparison, only user's feedback is what I go by personally.

The camera won't "Most likely" be better, it will be better, that much is certain :p

Oh I am pretty sure it will be better as well :D :p for overall quality especially the video recording side of things, but for features it won't be, well from what I have seen so far anyway.

And the one x/s according to other sites have got the best camera when compared to the GS 2, sony experia, iphone 4s etc.

So just "how much better" will it be? Will we be able to see a massive difference straight away or will things have to be highlighted in red to show the differences?

Well the SGS3 camera going by the samples posted is better than the SGS2 and those were taken by the journos at the event so in the hands of people that can actually use cameras the results should be even better yet because if you look at the photos from SGS2 thread on XDA it's pretty clear how excellent the SGS2 camera is in the right hands.

Video recording aside (it's clear that Samsung won't be beaten in video recording), features and things seem neck and neck, both HTC and Samsung offer similar features and manual control for picture taking on One X and GS3.

I feel Samsung has the edge though with customisable pinned items on the left of the camera view giving quick access to more complex settings. The same applies to the GS2 as the camera app remains the same UI wise.

Also whoever recorded the GS2 video sample comparing to the GS3 didn't update to ICS as that video looks lower quality and audio only in mono so not really a fair comparison. The sensor on the GS3 video is quicker at metering and more sensitive, you can see as the camera pans down to the darker part of the display, the S2 takes a bit longer to adjust which is what I've observed on mine as well.

if its the same as in the nexus i think its very good, [MP difference but who cares] low light is great and speed, but i did have a desire before!

The camera sensor? It's not the same sensor. Same MP count but completely new sensor. The S2 sensor is even better than the Nexus :p

Stills = HOX: It has a great F2 lens vs a F2.6 lens, both have the same 8MP sensor type. (they'll be identical in most situations)
Video = SGS3: Better bandwidth, faster encoder and uses 30%+ less battery when taking vids. (SGS3 should be genuinely better/smoother)

Not to be too technical but 8MP is not a sensor type! The f2 lens will add a few /xxths to the shutter speed though but not a major difference really. PQ in daylight should be neck and neck yeah but it's low light I'm interested in seeing as the majority of photos people take with phones are shot indoors in dim lighting.

Also interesting bit about the modem and radio chips being used in the S3 vs the GN/GS2, according to the stand poster it's the newer Intel device which is more power efficient so could we see less battery drain when only connected to mobile network?

I'll find out in June :p

Hmm where did you see that exactly? Cheapest 12 month voda deal i can see on there is £732 all in - no 12 month deals that i could see had the phone for free.

I think the reason I'm finding it so hard to decide between the two is that unlike the One X, Samsung have failed to convince me that I want the S3. In a direct comparison between the two, the S3 almost certainly wins more than it loses, but as an overall package, the styling and the disappointment makes the S3 altogether less appealing. To be awfully clichéd, the S3 has won my mind but the One X wins my heart.

All of the camera samples I've seen at the event are in fairly poor light and look pretty average.

What ones have you seen? Have I missed some?

I would expect that, historically, it (GS3) should be better, but it's not certain.

It's foolish to judge anything like the camera, battery life and so forth until it's out, and that previously posted XDA article seems heavily biased!

I was thinking of putting a post together (as honestly as possible) when the reviews are out as over the next few months there will be probably a few hundred people asking about what phone to get! :p

Same reason I like the iPhone so much. It loses all 1v1 comparisons but that doesn't make it worse overall... :p

The only one I can find and its £209 for the phone

Easier for me to buy simfree ...trade my sgs2 in and stay on current o2 contract as there's a discount on it

SpaghettiOs has a point. If the design was aluminium (or other exotic material), then it would be an order of magnitude better than the HTC One X.

Edit so that I don't double post: That post above is based off facts from Anandtech, factored in with some logic. The HTC wins on looks and there is lots of ties..

Personally I'm waiting on shops to get the device because it's supposed to feel less "plasticky", even though I'll have it in a case, but still.
