There are a number of players who had they been available throughout, would likely have made more than a point difference to their side.
However, only one is from City (Tevez) with Fletcher, Vidic, Anderson and Cleverly all missing huge amount of games for us.
But I think it's injurys to defenders specifically which most cost us.
Personally, I think we have dropped far more points because of silly goals than City have by not scoring.
Still, there's always next year. I hope Smalling is given the chance to establish himself as first choice, he's probably Englands best youngster after Wilshere and could reach the very top imo!
Fletcher had one good season, and it wasn't playing football, it was kicking people. NO doubt a better choice than Park and that MIGHT have made a difference.
But you lost 8 games starting Park was it, and all 4 where Park and Giggs started, and at no stage this season or last did Park seem anything but ****.
Anderson is rubbish, Fletcher is semi retired, you called on another player to come out of retirement, I like Cleverley, lots of potential but you can't say you WOULD have done better had he been available either.
Vidic, maybe, your CB's weren't particularly bad this year, mistakes are made, Kompany made mistakes also, thats life. Evra is responsible for a ridiculous number of goals this year with some truly awful defending, he's been **** for over two seasons, him being a certain starter cost you more points than Vidic being missing.
Not having a consistant or reliable right back cost you, not having a Scholes replacement for half the season cost you, putting out Park in that certain type of game, as a tactic, cost you.
Injuries are the way it goes, but they aren't responsible for your season much at all. The errors were from consistent starters, the goal misses from the same players over and over.
Fergie's had YEARS to replace Scholes, Neville and Giggs, and hasn't replaced 2 out of 3 of them. He bought Anderson freaking ages ago now, he won't make it, its been clear for 3 years, much like Wenger he refuses to admit it and move on and that finally cost you.
Trying to boil it down and saying Kompany has been the difference, is both too simplistic, wrong, and absurd.
Yaya has blown away any of your midfielders for contribution and its frequently been him that has WON games while your midfielders(central ones) have gone and actually won you games very very few times this year.
Clichy has been outstanding, Evra has been a joke, Zabeleta and Richards are better right backs than you have. Aguero has been better than any of your strikers, and Lescott has been rock solid most of the year. Kolo was completely brilliant against Chelsea recently, and in several other games, he is a fantastic CB, he just hasn't got much/any form and hasn't had the chance to play much. he played more for a spell while Kompany was out and since then has put in several absolutely top notch performances.
Yaya Toure, and Carrick, both playing a somewhat similarly slightly defensive role, Yaya has the balls and drive to get forward, got himself 6 goals, 8 assists, often in crucial games where he was the difference between winning and drawing or losing. Carrick, barely gets forward, 2 goals, 4 assists, meh.
ULtimately what cost you was not improving the squad when it was obviously required, AND not asking Scholes to come back at the start of the season, and a lot of really poor managerial decisions, it wasn't Kompany. The key difference between the teams I've watched is, in a crappy game where City or Utd just can't seem to find their top gear, and it looks like points are about to be dropped, Utd have no one in central midfield with energy, strength, quality and power to reignite the team and go get a goal, City do, City have 2 or 3 of them.
Just for the Utd fans, Young has 6 goals, 11 assists, 1484 minutes. Valencia has 4 goals, 14 assists in 2034 minutes. Nani has 8 goals and 12 assists in 2095 minutes.
Just thought I'd highlight how ineffective Young has been, in his first, and injury hit season.
