Camping Newbies - Sky TV?

You don't have to be bear whatshisface to think it weird that he wants to TAKE A TV AND A SKY BOX AND A SATELLITE DISH on a camping trip.
That and all the hair straightener stuff, makes you wonder if a camping holiday is the best idea in the world for this couple
.
I don't think that's really what people are implying.
Just that camping is about getting out and enjoy the outdoors. If you long for Sky TV while away and are staying in a 'campsite' full of Caravans with electric hookups, why not just stay in a Caravan if that's what you really desire. It's clearly more hassle to setup said equipment in a tent.

I tried to think about it from your perspective for a while now but in the end, I have to agree with everyone else.
There's nothing wrong with wanting a few comforts like a shower and a toilet while camping (of course, i prefer wild camping myself but for longer stays showers and toilets etc are pretty welcome). And it's also understandable that one might want to keep up with the news and sports while away. For this, why not just use a smart phone (if you have one) or a radio.. something battery powered at least.
I think it's the fact that you're willing to bring a tv, sky box and a satellite dish into a tent that is absurd. If you're looking to relax, why not bring a good book?
The whole idea behind camping is to escape your every day habits and comforts and take some time out. As soon as you drag along a tv and (with a satellite dish attached, no less) the excursion becomes sort of pointless. The only thing camping then has going for it is that it's cheap. And camping is about more than cheap accommodation.
Edit: at the end of the day, of course it's up to you how you spend your holiday. But please remember to respect those around you. Tent's don't contain sound.. at all. So turn your TV off when it goes dark (or use headphones).

I remember last time I went Camping. The couple in the next tent spent a good 2 hours faffing about with an aerial in a 10 foot pole trying to get a TV signal! 
On one Sunday Morning we heard the theme tune for Friends coming from their tent, which suddenly went fuzzy and hissy and I heard the Woman shouting at the bloke to 'FIX IT!!!'
I remember every night their tent being lit up like a Football pitch with the TV blearing!!...
The Wife and me are of the opinion that whole reason to go Camping is to escape all the guff of the 'Rat Race'!! it's nice to just sit and watch the landscape, read a little, Talk to the Missus!! We go for long walks and just relax!!
We're off Camping again in July, this time to Fowey, the campsite has Wi-Fi and Power, but we're not bothered with either!.

I must have missed that memo. Maybe for the OP it's to go somewhere and enjoy both the outside and a few creature comforts?
Don't get me wrong, it's not something I would do and I've been camping many times (in PROPER MANLY places like the Alps ROOOAARRR SMELL THE TESTOSTERONE) but I don't get why people are so offended at the mere thought of someone watching a bit of TV while on holiday.
That's going to be a tough one to explain at A&E
