***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Hey there,

I'm jumping ship from the iP4 (not the 4S), over to Android. Enjoyed my 4 years with Apple but felt it was time for a change. Plus I have an iPad 2 so will be getting the best of both worlds now. Was between this and the One X but the SD card facillity was the clincher for me.

So I've ordered the SIII in white (had a black iPhone for 4 years so gone the other way round this time) on Orange. Free phone, £36 on a 24 month contract. No different to the O2 bill I've been paying for the iP4 and I get the extra 500MB of data. Getting it delievered to the store near my work and should get it on the 1st June.

I want mine for launch, but t-mobile haven't released any pricing for those wanting to upgrade
Im out of contract, but have 300 mins, 200 txt and truly unlimited data for £31 inc VAT, and if I don't mind shelling out upfront (Im guessing around 200 quid) it just means extending my contract for 12 months, and I quite like getting a new phone every year..
I was looking at the One X for 177 quid, but the extra battery life and SD storage have sold this for me..
just need to see what pricing they want for upgraders

edit

Ace - doesn't your deal mean that you have to get a new mobile number?

I'm hoping that I can transfer my number from my old contract to my new one, as both are with Vodafone. Worst case, I dont mind a new number anyway.

Welcome aboard, for that kind of monthly bill I'd suggest picking one up from 3 on the one plan, for two quid a month less its truly unlimited Internet. We well worth it

Thought about 3, but the coverage isn't very good in my area I'm afraid. O2 (my current provider) have been fine, but couldn't offer me anything in terms of sticking with them.

500MB has served me well for the past two years and has only been recently where I've gone over the 500MB so 1GB will be more than sufficient for my needs. Plus I get these Swappables and Orange Wednesdays which the GF was pleased with for some strange reason..... lol

You own your number so transferring is never an issue!

It is apparently, at least for t-mobile. I rang them this morning to find out about their pricing for the S3 as Im out of contract with them now and want to upgrade. No details available yet, and when i queried about all the deals available, I was told that they are all new contract deals, and I couldn't get one and transfer my existing t-mobile number to the new contract..

That's terrible, I'm sure there's something in trading standards about your number. Can't you just request a PAC code, get the code and and then register as a new customer on a new contract and give them that code while silently muttering obscenities at them?

lol
I did think about that, but then Im stuck in a 24 month contract, Id rather just pay a bit upfront to upgrade and know I can upgrade again in 12 months. I have sort of become addicted to a new phone every year - it scratches my tech itch :D

Previously to get a new contract with the same supplier (Orange) I've had to PAC code a number to a payg sim, then pac code it to the new contract.

Anyway what T-Mob told you is complete rubbish. Regardless they won't have upgrade deals until the phone is actually released, so try Phones4U, CPW and the others. You'll probably get a better deal anyway.

Sounds like you want to go sim free and buy a new phone each year then :p

- Sim only deal = £7-£15 a month over 12 depending on tariff.
- Set aside £41 a month for a shade over £500 saving at the end of the year, buy new phone :D

You don't own your own number sadly - thank god I've not had a problem with PAC codes yet as I've had the same number for close to 10 years now.

As long as you can keep a phone in semi-decent condition, most top end phones are easily worth £250 after a year, so you only need to really budget for £21 a month for the depreciation, and £10 a month for a sim only solution..

£31 a month and you can have the latest/greatest phones with at least 300 mins / unlimited texts / unlimited data..

:P

Vodafone certainly seem to think you do. When I switched from them to 3 they told me that porting is no problem since I own the number I am on and have the right to move it to wherever I want by requesting a PAC code.

interesting idea, never really looked at sim only deals, I had just always upgraded every 12 months when my contract ended. The only reason I stayed with t-mobile was because I was on an older contract and my data was truly unlimited

goes off to have a look around...

I have 2 months to run on my SGS2 12 month contract, and while I was going to keep the SGS2 and go with a cheap Giffgaff SIM, I am now getting tempted by the S3... Like other people the design is growing on me, and a nice back cover and the improved audio might just convince me. My current contract is 400 mins, 1GB and 1000 texts for 30GBP/month (that Talkmobile deal from last year). How much do you think I could haggle the price down to for the handset on the same deal come July? I paid 100GBP last year, so I guess if I can equal that it would be a good deal.
If they can't offer a good deal I might as well go off contract and stay with the SGS2 as it is annoying you somehow always spend more than budgeted in the 30 quid/month (e.g. by receiving calls abroad or sending texts to non-UK mobiles)

As mentioned above though, if you buy a high end phone you can then sell for £250~ so you'd actually be setting aside even less to make up the difference :p

Lol wait?

Lol.

Just saying, CPW have a tendency to not have top end phone on pay as you go at launch, as staff will gobble up all the stock at a loss. So it will be contract and sim-free only for a few weeks before they can get em with the staff discount. :p
