i'm referring to the war in iraq and afghanistan and the olympics.
back in 2010, the figure was £20bn and that didn't include wages or payouts to injured soldiers.

i can't find a more up to date figure but i've just seen a story on the news about how our country is failing with the supply of care for the elderley and disabled and surely the money would be better spent on these matters?
are the government looking at the war as an investment (obtaining land and resources) or are they looking at it purely as keeping us safe? or, are they dressing it up as a mixture of both?
i can't overlook the fact that surely that money could've been spent on developing areas. couple this with the ridiculous amount the olympics has cost, am i showing my economic's novice badge when i tend to think this is all an incredible waste of money or will it all be worth it in the end?

the olympics had a budget of £9.3bn, there's no way it wont go over that, infact i wouldn't mind putting a £10 on it doubling.
danny boyle apparently has a budget of about £40m for producing the opening and closing shows? well, it was £40m until he went and asked for another £40m! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-16030785
i remember the millenium dome being called ''the envy of the world, people will come and see it'' did they, or was it a criminal amount of money down the toilet, saved by rebranding by o2.
i understand a large part of the olympic budget will bring much needed improvements to the capital. any other parts of the country going to benefit?
