***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Yes well, we all know you're the Samsung version of an Apple fanboy! :p

Not liking crapple does not make someone a Samsung fanboy. I simply buy the best device that appeals to me regardless of brand. The fact that you're so quick to throw that out there says a lot about you.

The HTC One S isn't even as smooth as the Galaxy SII from what I saw from my hands on with it. It's smooth but not buttery smooth, SenseUI stutters when scrolling or roaming around the UI still. Neither is the One X but I didn't care about those anyway because if I did get either then I'd be looking at CM9 being put on them just like in the olden on HTC devices gone by, there isn't anything enticing enough on a SenseUI based ROM (tweaks/HTC customisations) that deserves it being kept on really compared to those put in by Samsung.

The reason I switch between Samsung based custom ROMs so much is because of the neat tweaks Samsung put into them and the polished performance and stability (launcher aside, TWLauncher is just nothing compared to GoLauncher/Apex/nova etc).

Wow, touchy. No need to get upset, it was a joke.

The fact you call them 'crapple' could say a lot about you though... clearly brand is a big factor in your purchasing decisions as you've ruled one out (seemingly forever) and given it a silly name.

Yes Nexus 18, we heard you the first 20000 times. We get that you don't like the phone. That's great that you can type it multiple times.

Just to be sure.

I DON'T LIKE THE PHONE!

:p

Oh and thanks :)

I have no problem with the phone hardware etc. just the design and software and the way that Samsung are now just copying apple regarding software (siri rip off etc.) and trying to get their marketing style and creating a load of hype for their products exactly the same way as apple etc. and then not to mention it is quite funny that they sla*g apple owners off for being sheep and sla*g apple off for copying ideas etc. yet they copy apple......

oh and I hate apple just as much as you, probably more.......... but you can't deny that Samsung are just copying apple completely now.........

Well it must have been a dodgy unit you tried then :p

As on my S, it is super smooth and everything launches instantly apart from the tab animations in the sense browser. Stock sense launcher is super smooth for me as well, experienced no stutter what so ever (as said before in the S thread, all the launchers are the same for me speed and smoothness). And as said, it is not just me who thinks this, plenty of people on XDA etc. have stated that and that was one of the main reasons they went for the S over other phones due to the quickness. Should never base phones for speed and smoothness on display models (unless they have just been put out :p) as I used the GS 2 one time in the shop and it was extremely sluggish and I knew straight away that this was not right as I used a friends GS 2 and it was super quick and smooth.

I would record a video of me using the S, but I haven't got any good video recorder and so wouldn't be of any use :p

EDIT:

Also you have rooted and flashed a custom ROM, so it will be faster and smoother than a GS 2 on stock ROM.

Ordered a blue one :) £29 for the handset, £26 a month, 500 mins, unlimted texts, 500mb internet. £30 cashback through quidco. Same price I'm paying for my GS2 so I thought why not :)

Finally, the full GSMArena preview is up, not review, but the closest thing so far and it's in the hands of the guys who know their stuff! :)

Edit: In short:
  • Screen seems excellent and arguably the best around, so it must have been improved on from the Nexus!
  • Camera seems good, not massively different to the other good 8MP cameras (4S/S2/X)
  • Video recording looks very good
  • Design and perceived build quality are still in the balance
  • Oh, and it's fast :p

Well the camera looks to be a bit better than the SGS2 (as it should) but I'm interested to see what it's like against the One X. With the video recording there really is no contest, the SGS3 blows the One X out of the water.

Slowly the look of it is growing on me, it really depends what colour it is in your hand, if it's a deep blue/purple colour I'd happily take that.

That's the 2nd worst S2 colour man, next to pink!

I can pretty much guarantee that 3rd party makers will release housings in multiple colours. They absolutely have to as well because the S3 has a trend already set by the S2 to follow and makers want a piece of the popularity pie.

ANY NEWS IF THE FRONT PLATE IS REMOVABLE?
If so, smartish move by samsung, so 3rd party casing makers can take the "fall" for an "apple-like" design (referring to that one website posted a while ago)
:p

Probably won't know until launch day/week I'd imagine. Nobody is going to open up demo/review phones :p

Nexus, I also have a GS2 running stock ICS and outside of the launcher, that behaves the same as my own phone as far as smoothness goes. The kernel I'm using on my phone is geared towards battery life, not performance too.

Any info on how much better the Audio chip will be compared to the s2? or is it a matter of waiting til release before more detailed info of that nature can be found? :)

Sound quality as always is subjective but the dac is considered to be the best you can get in any current mobile, have a quick Google at sgs1 sound quality as it's relative. It's something I'm really looking forward to, it was the one thing that gave any sense of regret when I went to the s2.

Audio codec:

Wolfson Micro WM1811
http://www.wolfsonmicro.com/products/audio_hubs/WM1811/
100dB SNR Class W Headphone amp output, ReTune DSP, 3x digital interface.
Ultra low power standby, flexible, multi-button accessory detect.

Like WM8994 in Galaxy S / Nexus S, except:
1x stereo DAC instead of 2x.
2x 2W Speaker amp instead of 2x 1W
Smaller and probably cheaper, same sound quality expected.

Audio driver configuration & policy implementation based on TinyUCM (/etc/tinyucm.conf)
Probable subset of TinyHAL implementing codec configuration in config files instead of having everything hardcoded in ROM or kernel driver at compile time.

Native sampling rate: 44100 Hz. It means music played will be sent as-is to the DAC instead of being processed by a software up-sampling routine as it is on Galaxy Nexus or other devices with codecs accepting only 48000 Hz.
