How much is on your credit card?

About £3.5k on my Amex, I put everything on there for the points, as it's a charge card it has to be settled in full every month.

£0 on my Barclaycard, very very rarely use it, I only keep it for the odd places that don't take American Express

A few hundred from lasts months purchases to be paid off when I next login to banking.

I see it as foolish to not put all purchases on a credit card (especially when online).

About 1k when I port my OcUK finance over to it. Interest free until this time next year, even then it's only 10%. I think it's a pretty good card for a 22 year old. It's a nationwide CC (who I have my bank with). Hoping to be pretty much debt free by the end of the year.

But... I do fancy a new cpu and motherboard :D

Mine has about £50 on it, I have a CC just for keeping my credit level good and to buy things which has added protection, like flights in the summer. If the company I booked my flights with goes bust, I lose my money if I use my debit card, but credit card is protected.

This includes electrical goods too etc....

About £1500 at the moment, but that'll go in a couple of months. Had to do a few internet purchases (I don't like using my Debit Card) such as foreign travel and a few bits and bobs. Don't like clocking up the credit card, and normally I only use it as much as I can afford to pay off in 1 month. However, I accepted that I'd have to clock it up a little and just pay it off a few months - it's manageable though and not an unwieldy beast that I cannot tame.

However saying that I have recently got rid of 2 credit cards, and now am just down to 1. :)

I feel sorry for people that rely on the cards so much and just keep clocking up debt and never even manage the minimum payment :(

a lot of people in this thread have some nasty bills there. I hope I never get a credit card. The temptation is too great.

Only £100. I used to have a lot of cards but now I only have my HSBC card and my work Amex card because I didnt need the other ones for anything and they were taking up wallet space!
I plan on getting a new card though that has good cashback offers.

There are several upsides as long as you pay in full each month / know what you are doing.

- Better protection
- Emergency fund if you ever need something quickly
- Cashback / Points
- Interest free options can be useful if you want to spread payments
- Cheaper spending abroad
- Helps your credit rating

Some people should not get credit cards i agree but if you have self control and know how they work you can use them to your advantage.

I've got £62 on mine atm. I only have it to build up my credit rating and I can always pay it off.

Slightly off topic, when is best to pay it off in relation to building a credit rating? Is it better to pay it all once a month or can I do it every 2 weeks?

Indeed. Playing the game with money if you are smart and know what you're doing is well worth it.

For instance, the 5.5k 0% interest credit card I mentioned earlier has saved us at least 4k worth of interest on our mortgage.

Quite a lot, but paid off in full each month via direct debit.

Cashback on all purchases including household bills like council tax means it makes sense to use my credit card. Plus I get extended warranty on electrical goods and whole host of other benefits as listed in this thread.

Agreed entirely. When buying things online I tryto always use my CC. As awell as when I'm abroad - which I do a lot of.

It's like everything in life - you have to be sensible.
