***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Fighting a losing battle here as far as nexus is concerned there's "One S to rule them all"

Where have I said that the s is the best out of them all? I have said that it is still the best in some areas just like the gs 3 will be the best in other areas as well of the X having its own best areas etc.

Also as said I am not the only one who thinks that certain things are the best e.g. Speed and smoothness, just go and look at multiple forums and you will see that other people have said the same, even people that own a galaxy nexus, galaxy s2 and the X think the same.....

Also you never answered my question as to why you think the s and 4s are in the same league as the gs 2 ;) :p

Well all I can say mrk is that my friend was around here the other night and he had his stock ics gs 2 and I was showing him how to do multiple things on the phone (android noob, doesn't know how to find his number, what the clear button in notification list does, didn't even realise he had a screen protector on his mobile despite all the air bubbles etc. :o) and the gs 2 didn't feel as "instant" as the s when opening apps and menus etc. And he has hardly any apps installed.

So other than having an uglier design and an uneccessary quad core processor, what are the advantages of the S3 over the S2 again?

What makes you think the quad is unnecessary? It's obviously being utilised quite well given what's on offer (popup video, all share cast, no hint of lag anywhere, instant camera enhancements (shoot while video recording) among other stuff...

In closing then, virtually everything is better than the S2, casing design is subjective.

I don't get lag on my S2 either.

I'll porbably upgrade to one when my current contract runs out but just been disapointed by the specs and design so far. Where's teh 12mp camera that was supposed to feature for example, the 2GB of RAM? At least the 720p screen made it.

Yes casing is subjective but why make the thing blue????? I don't want the white iClone so it means my only choice is the tacky blue then, who made the stupid decision that black wasn't good enough anymore?

The 12MP and 2GB RAM among other things were all rumours that blogs created, not through official channels.

If it wasn't for the screen I'd say this wasn't a must have upgrade for GS2 owners (like the iPhone 4->4S situation really), but it does have a great screen therefore you have no excuses. :p

So what's your point? The Galaxy S2 seemed to upgrade everything from the S1, adding a bit more RAM and upping the camera resolution shouldn't have been that hard for Samsung and would have made the S3 feel like a complete upgrade.

From what I've seen so far it just looks a minor improvement over the S2.

Dissapointed by the phones size as well, I already get cheeky comments on how huge my S2 is. When a bigger screen was mooted I hoped they'd do it by keeping the size of the S2 but expanding the screen by taking away the physical buttons etc but they're still there and by adding the 'curvy' body it makes it even bigger!

I mean it's only a tad smaller than the Galaxy Note.

The one S v S2

" Final ThoughtsIt's a close run competition this time and these phones end up drawing more than they do outright beating each other on the whole. Both have great cameras, the same excellent operating system and some sharp visual styling. Samsung's device is unquestionably the preferred choice if storage is a priority for you, however, the HTC One S wins on both display quality and processing power - two vital areas in our view.At a push we'd probably go for the HTC One S, though we would miss the Galaxy S2's micro SD card functionality. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is still a hugely competitive phone in the current market though and well worth consideration."

Can pointlessly Google ip4s versus if you like, little if anything to choose between them which simply quantifies what I've said all along, the one S is nice, but merely competes with the one year old galaxy model. As you keep pimping the one S in each and every spec me type post I felt a little balance was in order.

Ok, don't buy one then :p

I'm still on a HTC Desire so it will be a big upgrade for me :D

Internals: fairly big upgrade, whether you think you need it or not

Camera: fairly small upgrade, video recording seems to have been improved more though

Design: subjective obviously, it doesn't seem to have inspired anyone, that's for sure

Screen: huge upgrade

Storage: small upgrade at least until 64GB is available (if ever)

Battery life: probably a small increase

Software: a bit meh in that respect but some nice touches

Given the importance of the screen, it can't be underestimated. It's the most important thing.

Edit: forgot audio as well, many people use their phone for music and in this regard it should be really impressive

I mean it's only a tad smaller than the Galaxy Note.

No, the Note is still a lot bigger. Huge difference in general use.

There is an S is every one of his posts, he clearly treasures his phone. That just shows how far ahead the S II was in its time and how hard it is for Samsung to one up themselves!

Now if only the bottom wasn't curved, I would have preordered already.

I wouldn't say it was the only thing. I think people will find the battery life surprising once we see reviews cropping up showing how long it lasts and the mobile network reception from the upgraded radio internals that draw less power, are better performers.

I think estebanrey WANTS an S3 but is finding ways to justify NOT getting one :p

Everyone post S3 pics when they get theirs. The opinion shall be turned!

I think you are right to consider the 4S a top spec phone. It's not really far behind anything in terms of hardware (even now), a top camera/screen (despite being small), it has zero lag anywhere so performance is right up there with all of the other phones and people don't really buy them for benchmarking! :p

So it's the only thing going for it. ;)

Not the only thing, but the biggest thing by quite a margin!

Some people are sooo mean, are you ok? Any trauma? Did it ever escalate into violence? More to the point did you get video of the incidents on your trusty, though huge S2?

Be sure to buy a Note next time to show the bullies you won't give up!!

If things get too bad you can always use the S2 to hold your chin up for you.

The battery life will be quite a bit better on standby, but as for screen-on time, I can't see it being much better under heavy use.

Especially as Myshra indicated earlier (he's the only person here that's used one) that the screen does indeed suck the life out of the battery like there's no tomorrow! There's no getting around this at the minute. :(

That's down to the massive 128bit quad channel memory controller not number of cores, Tegra 3 only uses a pitiful single channel 32bit interface by comparison. (the SGS3 might only be using 64bit for the 720p display)
Hopefully the new dual core part uses the same design. :)

Just a question, do you know what the word 'cheeky' means?

I have a reason, the 18 month contract on my S2 doesn't run out til August but I was hoping this was going to be my next phone.

It probably will be, I'm just not as blown away by it as I was hoping I would be.
