***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

I'm pretty sure I was exemplifying the word cheeky in the post you are referring to, I own a Note.

But my point wasn't about me personally (like your response) it was more about Samsung's design policy.

Whilst the S2 sold like hot cakes, the one factor most of the people I have spoken to that turned them off it was the size, so to make the S3 even bigger seems like a step backward and the only reason it seems they've done it so they can say they have a 720p screen (despite the fact the human eye can't even distinguish that many pixels in such a small space). People are aware of 720p from TVs so think "this is HD innit" when in fact the definition of phones screens has been 'high' for a while now given the amount of pixels being crammed into such a small space/

I'd have preferred a 4.3-5 inch 600p screen. which would have been much higher "definition" than a so-called HD 720p 21" monitor. I think Samsung are taking advatage over people's confusion over definition versus sheer number of pixels (resolution).

but I was hoping this was going to be my next phone.

It probably will be, I'm just not as blown away by it as I was hoping I would be.

Same boat dude, I wanted to have my mind made up for me by the S3 it sorta is but is a bit more speed and a faster slightly better camera enough stimulous to fork out cash on an S3. Or wait for the Note 2 as my hopes for the Hayabusa don't look like they're gona be met.

I'm prob going to wait and see what it's like in the hand and get user reports if they're not good I'll just resign myself to the wait for SGN2.

My contract isn't up while November, so unless something new pops up between now and then my choice will be either the S3 or the One X. Just no idea which one i would go for out of those 2, if there's anything between them as both seem pretty similar.

The one S v S2

" Final ThoughtsIt's a close run competition this time and these phones end up drawing more than they do outright beating each other on the whole. Both have great cameras, the same excellent operating system and some sharp visual styling. Samsung's device is unquestionably the preferred choice if storage is a priority for you, however, the HTC One S wins on both display quality and processing power - two vital areas in our view.At a push we'd probably go for the HTC One S, though we would miss the Galaxy S2's micro SD card functionality. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is still a hugely competitive phone in the current market though and well worth consideration."

Can pointlessly Google ip4s versus if you like, little if anything to choose between them which simply quantifies what I've said all along, the one S is nice, but merely competes with the one year old galaxy model. As you keep pimping the one S in each and every spec me type post I felt a little balance was in order.

I have specced the S as it is also a good alternative/option to the people suggesting just the galaxy nexus and gs 2 and IMO the X.

So one site............. which seems pretty carp, just look at the software section, they didn't even compare touchwiz or sense let alone even mention it......... just the android versions, which only every android mobile is based on.....

So try to find a better site like gsmarena or something that does a proper comparison :p

Firstly form factor, yes the looks of the GS 2 is nice (3rd or 4th on my list for the best looking phones) and no doubt the durability is better (and better than pretty much every other phone), however, the build and perceived (especially this) quality is better on the S. Go and try the S out for about 10 minutes then go back to the GS 2 and see which one feels better in the hand and oozes more quality and IMO the S looks the best (apart from the nexus one), of course the looks are subjective, but I can't see how they think the GS 2 is the same as the S here. Even grudas said in the S thread that the phone feels tiny compared to the GS 2 (despite being same screen size), which is a good thing in my books.

I always said the storage was better on the GS 2 and it is pretty obvious given the SD card slot :p

As said, they didn't do a proper comparison for software. I have played with both and there is no doubt that sense is far nicer looking than touchwiz, touchwiz has some damn handy features, however, sense is far more polished and also has some great features and in some areas better than touchwiz alternative, this is very much subjective again but IMO sense has the edge over touchwiz (the version the GS 2 is currently on, need to see and hear more about the new version on the GS 3 first) The stock gallery app is top notch with all the editing features built in.

I hated sense before and I if I had a previous version of it, the mobile would be rooted and a stock ROM flashed straight away along with a 3rd party app replacing the stock apps as soon as possible but in this case I haven't and have only replaced a few stock apps with 3rd party ones and the only reason was because I wanted to customize them to my liking (black ICS minimal layout) and that is saying a lot (just look at my previous posts in the sensation, GN thread etc.)

Camera - The GS 2 is great for quality and far better than the HTC alternatives for video recording but the S takes better pics as has been shown on proper "expert" reviews and at the same time has A LOT more features, which makes up for the poor video recording e.g. HDR, taking shots whilst recording, slow motion video recording etc. etc. So apart from the better video recording quality, the S is better in every way (granted not a huge amount of difference for photo quality)

Also they didn't compare battery life...........which as you can see from all my screenshots in the S thread and every one elses, it is better than the GS 2 (on stock battery and stock ROM)

They missed out the audio as well. I will just quote what gsmarena have said here:

The HTC One S performance in our audio quality test came as a really pleasant surprise to us. It appears that the Beats influence hasn't been limited to a single equalizer preset this time as the smartphone delivers the cleanest output we have seen from any device so far.

When connected to an active external amplifier, the HTC One S audio is simply flawless - volume levels are a little above average and it got excellent scores on every part of our test.

What's most impressive though is the One S retains virtually the same performance when you plug in a pair of headphones. The stereo crosstalk takes the tiniest dip of any smartphone we've seen so far, while the rest of the readings are either totally unaffected or worsen by an undetectable amount. Volume levels remain the same too, so it's arguably the most impressive overall performance to date.

So apart from the 3 areas where I have said that the GS 2 is better all along without a doubt (storage, durability and video recording), what else is without a doubt better than the S?

EDIT:

And where exactly does the S not compete with the X apart from screen (very nice screen due to res. and size and great colours but I prefer SAMOLED overall as I watch a fair bit of video and play a few games so IMO SAMOLED is better here along with blacks being black etc.), NFC (not really necessary [yet]) and slightly more storage (again if storage is extremely important people will not be buying an X just to be limited still they will get a GS 2 or GS 3 for the SD slot)? The S makes up for those areas in terms of battery life, size and feel of the device (backed up by many users at XDA etc. was all in the for the X until they tried the S out and ended up walking out with it instead due to a more premium quality), better processor by a lot for performance, power efficiency, slightly better 1080P video recording, faster and smoother overall (which has been backed up by many people who have had the X and returned the X due to that reason etc.)

Dude that wasn't an ad hominum it was a joke at peoples reaction to phones and a way of saying WGAF what other people say about your rational choices.

Before you criticise someone walk a mile in their shoes, that way if they react badly they've got to run a mile bare foot before they catch you and then are in no position to kick you.

Furry muff, point taken ;)

Another nooby question guys as i am seriously considering this phone.

I currentley find that when video recording on the S2 video is fine however audio depending on what your recording and how loud can cause the audio to crackle and distort.

Assuming this is to do with the quality of the internal microphone and not the audio chip?

not attempting to derail thread as i am trying to do a comparison with the s2 to the s3.

That's enough of the One S defending and the One X/S2 bashing in this thread! :p

Not bashing the other devices at all (I think they are great devices especially the GS 2 as it is able to keep up with all these phones still), just "correcting" some people ;) :p

And indeed, it is getting tiresome now and that is my last say on it (unless something has to be said back............ :p) as I have stated everything that I needed to with plenty of "evidence/proof" backing up my points on more than one occasion!

So mobiles.co.uk rang me. Cheapest contract with the phone for free on Orange is £41, lol. He also said he'll ring me at the end of the month to talk of any better deals that come up closer to release.

I just wondered if it was worth ringing Orange later in the month and upgrading through them rather than mobiles? Otherwise should i just completely cancel my contract and go with a buymobilephones.net?

How long have you got left on your contract? I have 2 months left on my SGS2 12 month contract, also with mobiles.co.uk, and intend to finish it first and then see what is available. Hopefully a few months after release some good deals will available, as happened last year.

What network are you on? With Orange you can upgrade with up to 3 months left on your current deal.

I bought my S2 on launch day last year which was May 1st I think on an 18 monther so I can upgrade on the 1st of August theoretically.

I'm on Talkmobile (Vodafone network), first time that I'm on a contract and not sure what to do. As I said a few pages back I might just stick with the S2, go off contract and get a cheap 10 quid/month Giffgaff sim, but you know what it's like... the upgrade itch is there for sure! Haven't had a call from mobiles.co.uk yet, let's see what they say first.
Think I'll also make my decision based on what is said here once people start playing with the phone, nothing better than some hands on experience from S2 users who moved to the S3.

No, the Note is still a lot bigger. Huge difference in general use.

'A lot' bigger? You think?

I would say the size increase between the S2 and S3 were marginally smaller than that of the S3 against the Note. I certainly wouldn't say the Note is "a lot bigger" than the S3.
