President Obama Endorses Gay Marriage
"It is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married."

President Obama waves after speaking at the DNC's Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Leadership Gala in New York in June 2011

President Obama came out in favor of gay marriage for the first time on Wednesday, saying that he thought it was important for him to "go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married."

The president delivered the news in a sit-down interview with ABC News' Robin Roberts that came one day after North Carolina became the 30th state in the nation to approve a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages.

Fantastic news. I'm not quite sure as to how political this proclamation is, but it is certainly welcomed. For anybody that complains of the similarities of political parties in the UK, here is one election in which two candidates are starting to show a stark contrast.

I know this will probably end in another debate on whether homosexuals should have the right to be married... But if we could have a conversation on the fact that the president of the United States has come out in support of it, before it descends to that level, that would be swell. :)

Gonna have to be careful in the deeply Christian parts of the states with this.
He should have held fire and done and sorted their rights when he got re-e; elected and didnt have to run again, Republicans are going to tear him apart with this, sadly.

It's just common sense though, there isn't a single reason why it shouldn't be legal.
Depressing that there is debate over these things though :(.

Tell me about it.

Also, everyone needs to remember that just because members of the Tea Party movement can shout the loudest, doesn't mean that they are a majority.

I totally agree - I don't think I'll ever understand why the people in power are even debating it =/

It stems from the idea that marriage should be between a man and a woman, that's what god wanted, the word should be exclusively heterosexual because of this. Most supporters of this view don't care what gay partners call themselves as long as it isn't married.

Really though, they should just get over it and let people do what they want to do. One view is limiting the freedom of another. The other view doesn't. Total no brainer as to which is the more reasonable of the two.

He will lose a lot of supporters now.

I bet all those bible bashers didn't vote for him in the first place ;)
Means nothing to me, i dont see a problem if 2 people want to get married, no matter what sex they are

This is what I don't get about the whole thing - Why can't they just let people do what they need to do.

Romney is unelectable though, his own party don't like him.
I believe it was a few weeks ago that Joe Scarborough (conservative host on Fox News) said that he did not know one person in the GOP, after having spoken to many, that thought Romney was going to beat Obama. No one expects it to happen. Especially not me. ;)
