On today weekly sale i see that overclock have the ocz vertex 4 on sale and the vertex 3.

The vertex 4 is newer but on specs seem slower on write?? but i herd that there a firmware that makes this faster??? what the differece between vertex 3 and 4.

a lot people seem to like the M4 SSD drives a lot or corsair force 3/gt ones.

I looked at so meny reviews and they all have bad and good reviews but i just dont know which to get i love corsair stuff but seem like there ssd's been out for while but the ocz vertex 4 is pretty new on market.

I know this has been ask so meny time but on a poll which one would people get really.

Looking for 120gb for o/s and prob one to games i use a 500gb WD black as second drive.

Info and help will be very greatful

Regards
Kyle

The Crucial M4 is widely regarded as one of the best drives available, it is reliable and generally solid as a rock. There were problems with some of the OCZ drives last year though I have no idea what they are like now, personally I would stick to the M4 if it was my money.

Vertex 3 is a SandForce controller, which isn't so good on compressed data, and also can lose speed when the SSD is more than half full.

The Crucial M4 and OCZ Vertex 4 use the same controller with minor differences, but the OCZ comes with a 5yr warranty as opposed to the M4 which comes with 3. The M4 also had some problems with a limited life span, which was fixed on a firmware update.

The new firmware on the V4 gives some impressive speeds that the M4 can only dream of - here's mine with over 60gb used

write speeds dont matter on an ssd its the fast read/loading of data thats most important so dont let it put you off!!!

ssd's will eat ALL mechanical hdd's even in raid for breakfast

Thank you all for your comments very helpfull ;)

I might go with the ocz vertex 4 ssd even tho never used ocz before i tend to go corsair a lot :)

Another thing if i use the ssd for the mean drive for o/s should i just use the wd 500gb black hhd as sorage drive or can i set up a raid with it??

Am using a x58 gigabyte g1 killer mobo with has two 6gbps ports but it a marvel type?? i heard people say bad things about marvel controller on mobo's.

Use the SSD as OS and programs/games etc and the HDD as storage. Not sure about Marvell Sata III ports supporting trim, you can connect it then do the following to check

Open a command prompt and type fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify If it says DisableDeleteNotify = 1 then trim is disabled. If it says DisableDeleteNotify = 0 then trim is enabled.

your lucky with that mb,they use the newer improved marvel controllers and they match the intel sata3 for perfomance, not sure on trim either but garbage collection should work on the drive to help maintain it

Arww thank you for that info i will try that :)

Erm i might have to buy 256gb as i have a couple games and program i have :)

Thanks again for help.

Since the firmware update, the V4 is faster than the M4, your graph doesn't include the V4?

Thanks for spotting that, I had not noticed since there were so many drives. Here's an updated graph, but the review was on April the 4th so I assume that's not the new firmware? Although the new firmware would have to do A LOT to improve game performance....

Since the firmware update its like the difference between night and day, just need Hexus to retest.
