Margret Thatcher has not died!

She was, in my opinion, one of our greatest PM's. I can see why some people dislike her but regardless of whether you agreed with her policies and actions she was at least a strong leader and took the country in a direction in line with her policies. Compared to the weak PM's we've had recently it is like night and day. In many cases it does seem that people dislike her because it's the expected thing.

Personally I will find it a sad day when she passes. I think the boom times of the 90's were because she managed to release the damaging grip of the unions. While we are indeed in a global recession now I feel we would be in a much worse place economically had she not been PM.

If anything, the global recession we're going through at the moment is in part due to the policies of Thatcher and Reagan.

That's not to say that subsequent governments didn't exacerbate the problem, but to claim that we'd be worse-off now if it wasn't for her is complete conjecture.

Thatcher left power in 1991, to blame her for something that happened 20 years later (and ignore the 13 years Labour had in power leading up to the crisis) is pretty weak.
